New projects of houses with an attic. Choosing a house with an attic: projects, photos of ready-made solutions

Before you start building a country cottage, you need to clearly define what will be. Any flaw in this matter may later affect the strength of the building or even its appearance. Most of all, this applies to the attic part, especially if you want to divide it into several rooms.

The walls in which the living area is located must be load-bearing for the roof. The attic floor is provided warm, dry and should not be blown by the wind. Your comfort depends on the layout of the house. To do this, the project should take into account everything to the smallest detail, even the rational arrangement of window openings and doors, much attention should be paid to the shape of the walls and the location of communications. Properly need to determine the place for heating risers, wiring electrical network, as well as the placement of the stairs.

when planning the attic, pay attention to how the staircase from the first floor will lead to it

To make the most of the space under the roof, the attic bulkhead should serve as a back wall for the built-in wardrobe and shelves. Otherwise, it is worth placing it at a level where the slopes will reach a height, this is at least 1.4 meters, it will be possible to put both a chair and a couch there.

Despite how many rooms the attic part has, each of them must have a window, the dimensions of which will be 10% of the entire space of the room. However, if you are satisfied with the twilight, then you can make it a little smaller.

Fight plan for every free meter

Ideal option, especially when developing a layout one-story house with an attic, - cutting a balcony or an entire gallery into the roof.

In this case, you will immediately need to deal with the insulation of the bulkhead, or simply make it part of the double-glazed window. In this case, the frames will open in different planes. The inclined one will recline up, and the vertical one will swing open.

There is another option - to install a railing that runs along the edge of the ceiling, almost above the roof overhang. From the side, they will look like an upside down isosceles triangle. In this embodiment, the upper part will rise, becoming a canopy, and the lower part will lean forward, adjacent to the front of the railing. This will allow you to go outside to get some air on the balcony.

An example of a layout of a 1-storey house with an attic and a terrace

First floor

On the ground floor there will be a living room with an area of 26 sq. m. It will be possible to get into it only from the hall, you can also go from it to the rest of the rooms. On the same floor there is a kitchen-dining room, a bathroom, utility rooms, a terrace and access to the garage. The bathroom also includes a bath, shower and other sanitary ware. The doors of all rooms and even the bathroom are located in niches. This fact makes it possible to install additional lighting and gives more expressiveness to the hall.

floor plan of the house

The entrance to the living room will be through a large beautiful opening. The kitchen-dining room is equipped with a single room, which is divided into two zones. One of them is working, cooking will take place in it. The second zone is intended for recreation, that is, it is a dining room in which the family will eat. Between themselves, these zones can be delimited by a sliding cabinet designed to store services and other utensils. This method of planning is very simple and functional, for this reason many designers use it.

It is well thought out that the kitchen can be accessed both from the hall and from the living room. No need to go around to set the table. A terrace adjoins the living room, where you can drink tea on summer evenings, since the area allows you to accommodate a small company there, and if you wish, you can arrange a small greenhouse there. But this is a matter of taste.

Second floor

Further, the plan includes. After you climb the stairs, a small corridor begins. From here you can get to any room located on this floor. There are three living rooms on the floor, and there is also a comfortable and spacious dressing room. From one room there is an exit directly to the loggia. In addition to these premises, there is also a bathroom with an area of 10.6 sq. m. The total height of the attic is from 1.9 to 3.8 m.

Great attention should be paid to the stairs. The living room is very spacious, so it will be possible to place not only furniture, but also in it. If, nevertheless, a significant part of the living room space is occupied, then you can place a spiral staircase on the other side of the house, as shown in the diagram. One of the living rooms can be converted and made into a working studio or workshop.

attic layout

The total area of the house is 163.71 sq. m

Attic floor lighting

It is important to make high-quality lighting of the attic floor. If people are constantly in this part of the building, then the ratio of the surface area of windows to the area of the room should be 1:8. In the case of this layout, someone will almost always be in the attic. Therefore, if the total area is 100 sq. m., then the glazing should occupy an area of 10 square meters. m.

Layout of the house with an attic and a veranda

When choosing the number of windows, you should pay attention to the fact that two small windows located at some distance from each other will give much more light than one larger window. Skylights can become the main element of the whole style of the room, if they are placed on top of each other, or next to each other. Practice shows that the installation height of the window is selected individually. The recommended indicator is at least 80 cm, and 120 cm is considered the most common and optimal.

one of the most good decisions for lighting rooms on the attic floor

The higher the window is located from the floor surface, the more light it will give. When determining the height, it is worth considering the height of the person who will be in this room more often than others. Tip: the distance from the floor to half the window should be equal to the average height of a person.

Each person will surely like such a structure, as it can be equipped at will.

Veranda at the entrance to the house

As soon as you enter the house, you find yourself on the veranda. A veranda is an open or glazed room, which is usually not heated, but ventilated through windows. In this regard, the veranda will be glazed, so you can arrange a reception room in it. Often this room is used simply as a transitional link from the street to the spaces located inside. However, he can have many appointments: starting from winter garden and ending with an office. The latter option, of course, is not very convenient, but in practice it is often encountered.

In this video you can see the original frameless way of glazing a veranda in a private house.

The veranda will have three doors:
  1. Entrance from the street;
  2. Entrance to the main room;
  3. Exit to the street.

in this case, the veranda has an additional exit on the side

The latter option is usually used to show the most Beautiful places Location on. For example, an unusual flower bed, a river or even a forest. From the window you can also observe a wonderful landscape, so that guests and owners of the house will relax in this room. The layout offered to your attention includes the heating of the veranda, as there will be armchairs and a sofa for receiving guests. There should be stained glass windows. They will be located at a height of no more than half a meter.

The optimal dimensions for the veranda can be considered 4x6, or 4x5, in this building the first option will be used. However, do not forget about the external decoration of the extension. To accomplish this task, you can use facing brick. The total area of the veranda will be 17 square meters. m.

1st floor

Right from the veranda you can get into the hall. The internal passages on this floor will not differ in anything noticeable, except for the niche, which is located near the entrance to the kitchen-dining room from the living room. It is recommended to select it from the surrounding space and set the backlight. This original move can transform the whole appearance 1 floor. As a rule, the first floor does not need additional lighting during the day, since the main sources of light are windows. Kitchen-dining room, the area of which is 17.5 square meters. m., has no separate exits. Its windows should face the garden plot.

Any residential building needs design, and drawings for houses with attics are especially carefully developed. Such structures are different and have features that are taken into account when planning construction.

Drawings and photographs of projects of one-story houses with an attic

A house with an attic is a popular option for a residential building, since a voluminous roof allows you to create a comfortable additional floor without the high cost of building a full-fledged wall, and then a roof. At the same time, they necessarily provide for good thermal insulation of the upper floor, as well as hydroprotection of the attic. This allows you to create optimal conditions for living and organize a comfortable layout.

At the design stage, the appearance of the building is also being developed.

Projects of buildings with an attic 8 by 10

Residential cottage 8 by 10 allows you to use more design solutions than two-story structures. At the same time, there are no significant construction costs, and the building turns out to be as beautiful, comfortable and durable as possible. To achieve these goals, you can use ready-made standard projects, which include detailed drawings of buildings with layout, exterior design and other features.

The main stages of creating an 8 by 10 house project are expressed as follows:

  • determination of the area, number of storeys, height of the future building;
  • analysis of the soil and the surface of the site in order to select the optimal type of foundation;
  • development of the appearance of the structure;
  • creation of a project and drawings in a professional program;
  • evaluation of the result, correction, selection building materials.
  • There are many project options, but one of the most versatile is the project below, which assumes the practicality of the upper floor. The attic is arranged as carefully as possible, forming a full-fledged living space with all amenities. This allows you to increase the usable area of the building by 8 by 10 m.

When designing the design of the building, special attention is paid

The drawing of this option has a convenient layout of the first floor, indicating functional areas. The parameters of the premises can be adjusted if necessary, creating a unique version of a residential building.

The drawing indicates the area of the premises

The attic project includes a bedroom, a bathroom and two living rooms. Thus, the presence of an attic allows you to save on the construction of a full-fledged floor, but at the same time create a cozy and functional space.

In the spacious attic it is easy to equip several living rooms

Another project may involve the presence on the ground floor of a spacious dining room that functions as a living room. On the top floor of the mansard type, full-fledged living quarters will be placed. Several exits to the territory of the site will make your stay comfortable.

The country house has several exits to the site.

The diagram of the first floor shows the parameters of all rooms, the main of which is the dining-living room. If necessary, this space can be divided into two functional zones by adjusting the project.

On the first floor there are two exits to the outside.

The attic allows you to maximize the functional use of each square meter of area. Therefore, on the plan there are three rooms, a hall, a practical staircase space.

The attic is functional and does not require large construction costs

Any finished project of a residential building 8 by 10 m can be adjusted depending on personal preferences or under the finished foundation of the house. At the same time, it is important to change the calculation of the load on bearing structures, take into account the location of communications.

Houses with an attic 9 by 9

The construction of a house with an attic of 9 by 9 m allows you to save the area of the building site, but at the same time, the under-roof space, that is, the attic, is arranged as carefully as possible. During construction, the shape of the roof, the thickness of the heat-insulating layer are taken into account, and hydro- and vapor barrier films are necessarily used. Thanks to this, the atmosphere of the attic floor will be comfortable at any time of the year.

When designing a 9 by 9 house, you should consider such features as:

  • the area of the first floor allows you to place important premises (kitchen, bathroom, etc.) and make them spacious;
  • the foundation for the building is selected depending on the type of soil, for example, the tape is suitable for solid soil;
  • for a 9 by 9 house, careful hydro and thermal insulation of the foundation is required, as well as a competent location of the heating system.
  • One of the notable finished projects of a 9 by 9 house is the option in which there is a bay window and a skylight. The building is comfortable for permanent or temporary residence at any time of the year.

The design can be changed without affecting the internal layout

The layout of the first floor shows a possible layout with furniture, but the exact location of the items is determined individually. The finished project makes it possible to organize the space on an individual basis, taking into account the peculiarities of lifestyle, personal preferences and other factors.

The scheme is easy to adjust on your own, but without making drastic changes without professional knowledge in architecture

The second floor plan includes a large bedroom and two additional rooms. The purpose of the premises can be changed, and the location is quite convenient.

Additional rooms can perform any function

The finished project of a 9 by 9 house, made of aerated concrete blocks, involves an accurate calculation of all parameters. For example, in the following project, the building has an area of 73 m 2 and a house height of 8 m. In this case, the roof slope is 18 °, and the diagram shows 3 living rooms. The roof is covered with metal tiles. The foundation in the form of a monolithic tape ensures the reliability of the building.

    Exterior finish may be different

The scheme of the first floor includes a living room, kitchen, bathroom, spacious entrance hall. This layout is comfortable, convenient and functional.

The purpose of the premises can be determined individually

In the attic area there is a spacious staircase, several rooms. Careful insulation of the roof allows you to provide comfort on the attic floor.

Volumetric roof allows you to make optimal height walls

Design of buildings 9 by 10 with an attic

The construction of a 9 by 10 building with an attic can be carried out from different materials. The arrangement of the attic allows you to make the construction as economical as possible, but the residential building will be cozy and durable. You can increase the functional space with the help of a balcony. On the ground floor of a 9 by 10 house, it is easy to arrange a summer veranda. The total area of a building of this size allows you to organize spacious areas in which each corner performs a specific function.

A house with a balcony on the top floor is one of the most comfortable options for buildings with an attic. The exterior of the building has a modern style, and the construction is carried out from high-quality bricks, foam blocks and other similar options.

Modern look building is one of the advantages of this project

The peculiarity of this project of a residential building lies in the fact that part of the facade is, as it were, pushed aside and there is an attic balcony at the top. At the same time, on the ground floor there is a bathroom, a living room, a hall and other functional premises. Thus, practicality and modern style building.

The main premises are located on the ground floor.

In the attic room, living rooms and a bathroom are equipped, it is possible to equip an office or other functional space. If bringing communications to the bathroom on the second floor causes certain difficulties, then this room can perform any other function.

The arrangement of furniture is determined individually

The design of buildings 8x10, 9x9 and 9x10 m has common features. For example, attic rooms often serve as living space. In the finished project, you can always make individual changes, taking into account the features of the structures.

Designing houses with a garage and an attic

The construction and planning of houses with an attic may include such a necessary room as a garage. This space is an extension or a dedicated part of the building in which the vehicle. For comfortable operation of the garage, when designing, a scheme for supplying communications, heating, and lighting is developed. The external design of a building with a garage may have one common style or a slight visual separation of these buildings, for example, with colored wall cladding.

Features of designing a house with a garage and an attic are as follows:

  • the wall separating the house and the garage should have a layer of sound insulation, and fire protection or alarms should be provided in all rooms;
  • the area of the garage must be sufficient for the free operation of the premises;
  • if the attic is located above the house and garage, then it is important to create a reliable system of ceilings, thermal insulation and waterproofing.
  • A universal solution is the project of a one-story house with an attic and a single garage. At the same time, the roof of the technical and living space is one, and the attic is located only above the living space.

A single roof allows you to create a harmonious design

The layout drawing includes two schemes. The project of the first floor shows in detail the location of the garage, exits from the house, porch, veranda and other functional areas. If the finished project is adjusted independently, then cardinal changes should be avoided, because in this case a professional calculation of the design parameters will be required.

The common roof over the garage and the house does not require large construction costs

Thanks to the large perimeter of the house in the attic, you can equip several living rooms, a bathroom. If the parameters of the house are smaller, then the usable area also decreases, only the necessary zones are equipped.

The attic rooms are full and functional

Video: an example of a house project with an attic and a garage

Features of a two-story house with an attic

During the construction of a two-story building, you can organize a cozy room in the attic area. This area can be insulated and operated year-round. And the option of only summer use of the attic space is also in demand. In the first case, thorough insulation and waterproofing of the roof is required, and in the second, the main vapor and waterproofing layers of the roof are equipped under the roofing material. In any case, a two-story house, complemented by a functional attic, is a comfortable building with a large amount of usable space.

The facade can be decorated in any way in accordance with the chosen design style.

The design of a two-story building with a residential attic space requires more careful calculation than the development of a one-story building project. This is due to the fact that in the case of two-story house the load on the foundation is greater than in the other option. Therefore, to cover the roof, equip the attic, light, durable and quality materials, and installation and layout are carried out according to the drawing.

The main premises are often located on the first floor, facilitating the layout of the second and attic floors.

The dimensions of the premises in the finished projects can be changed without a drastic effect on the supporting structures. Thus, it is possible to create a comfortable residential building, taking into account individual wishes and ensure the reliability of the premises on the second floor.

Rest rooms are often located on the second floor.

A two-story house with an attic can be built on narrow section. The presence of two floors and a functional attic space provides practicality and convenience of the building.

    Design of multi-gable mansard roofs

Multi-gable roofing is popular in the construction of buildings with an attic. Such a roof has several angles-slopes and is distinguished by a complex design of the truss system. At such corners, attic windows are often equipped, which is a practical and convenient solution.

A multi-gable roof has a complex system of rafters, but has external originality

A complex multi-gable roof is suitable for buildings that are built of brick, foam blocks, shell rock or aerated concrete. The design can be symmetrical or asymmetrical. In the first case, the corner elements are evenly spaced, while in the second case, the edges can be at different levels. For a roof of any type, a strong mauerlat is required, calculation bearing capacity and careful selection of building materials.

    • The layout of attic houses makes them warmer than one-story and two-story houses: you will not heat the attic in vain in winter.
    • Its turnkey construction will cost less than a one-story and two-story residential building of the same area (ceteris paribus). Since, on the same foundation, under the same roof, a house with an attic will have a larger area than a one-story one. For its construction, fewer materials will be required than for a two-story cottage, which will significantly reduce the cost estimate.
    • The length of communications in a house with an attic will be less than in a one-story one.
    • On the site, he will occupy less space than a one-story house.

Construction process own house on a separate site is not only a labor-intensive process, it also requires clear planning. Literally everything needs to be thought through, starting with a clear idea of what exactly the house will be like, to trifles like nails that will be used in construction and repair.

Starting the development of the plan, it is necessary to determine first of all the number of storeys of the house, as well as the location of the main functional premises. Often the choice stops at one-story houses, and here the question already arises, due to which it is possible to increase the area. So the choice falls on one-story houses with an attic, which expands the living functional area, and also adds sophistication to the house.

Do not forget also that the construction of the attic does not require large financial investments, it is enough to plan a gable roof.

    Features and Benefits

Choosing a project for a cottage or a village house is not an easy task. But if the choice was made in favor of a house with an attic, it must be remembered that such a house, like any other, has its own characteristics, which during the construction process and interior decoration must be taken into account.

The most important aspect to be take into account when building an attic, this is an arrangement of increased thermal insulation of the room. You must first look at the various projects of houses with an attic.

Since the attic living space is located directly under the roof itself and is not protected by additional beams and ceilings, as is the case with the construction of an additional floor. At the same time, the roof is in direct contact with the external environment, experiencing temperature changes and spontaneous changes. No one wants a room to rain, snow or blow cold winds. That is why the issues of heat and waterproofing of the premises will play one of the leading roles in the arrangement of a house with an attic.

Also, attic houses have the following feature: most often it is a single space that is not divided into separate rooms. If separation is necessary, it is important to use only lightweight materials. You can install drywall partitions, in no case use concrete or bricks to build improvised walls, this can adversely affect the entire structure of the house.

You can diversify the room with the help of windows mounted in the roof. Such windows will be inclined structures, which will not only give an interesting visual effect, but also allow the rays of the sun to enter the room at an interesting enough angle and create curious effects.

Given all the features, houses with an attic are gaining more and more popularity. Today, such houses can be found in large cottage settlements, and in private sectors in cities, as well as in villages and at individual points even in gardens.

Attic houses have a number of undeniable advantages that make them so popular:

    • The use of the attic as part of the living space increases the living area and usable space of the building in most cases at least one and a half times. At the same time, there is no need to spend tidy sums on the design and construction of the second floor, while receiving almost the same area.

    • Summing up all the necessary communications, whether it be a pipeline or electrical supplies, will not require huge labor costs. All this can be easily lifted from the lower floor.
    • Since the attic has additional heat and waterproofing, it prevents cold air from entering the first floor, which could occur when using the upper part of the house as an attic without additional insulation.

    • If the house is already ready, but it occurs to the tenants to complete the attic space, another plus of this design appears. It is not necessary to move for the period of repair and free the entire room from furniture and interior decoration, because repair work will not affect the first floor, their implementation will take place exclusively in the attic, affecting the roof.
    • The rebuilt space can be easily used not only as a living space, as a room, but also turn it into a gym, billiard room, library, cinema, or come up with your own special purpose for this space.

However, behind all the advantages of such a building, one should not forget about the existing disadvantages of this type of room. Knowing these nuances will help not only to keep the house intact and get an important functional space, but also to protect yourself and loved ones in the process of use.

    • During construction, you should not save on materials: poor-quality or incorrectly selected materials during the construction and finishing process can lead to negative consequences, up to the collapse of the structure.

    • Also, do not overload the floor, which is why heavy walls, partitions and coatings are not erected here. You should also not use too massive furnishings, this can also lead to the destruction of load-bearing structures.
    • It is also worth remembering: despite the fact that the attic is a much less expensive undertaking than the second floor, the use of inclined windows built into the roof in the construction will still require quite large investments.
    • And in winter, you should take care of additional lighting of the space, since snow can block the flow of natural daylight through window openings.

    Material selection

The construction of a house with an attic has its own clear algorithm of actions, following which you can get a quality product in the shortest possible time and at the lowest cost.

So, there is the following list of steps that will help build a high-quality attic:

    • The defining starting point in the creation process will be the drawing of a project plan for construction. All the main nuances of the future construction should be noted here.
    • The second stage is advisable in the case when the attic is attached to an already finished building. In this case, it is necessary to dismantle the old roof, which will allow in the future to carry out construction work for a fine finish.

    • Next, it is necessary to strengthen the ceiling, as well as the foundation, if required by the project. At the same stage, the walls on the lower floor should be strengthened, this will also avoid the collapse of the building if its maximum allowable weight is exceeded.
    • After that, you can go directly to the construction of the walls. Here it is necessary to verify every centimeter, clearly understanding what result you need to achieve in the final.

    • As soon as the work on the construction of the walls is completed, you can proceed to the construction of the roof and ceilings. After the roof is in place, at the same stage it is necessary to create hydro and thermal insulation.

Here you need to use the highest quality materials, since not only the safety of things located in the attic, but also the overall temperature of the whole house will depend on them, with the correct organization of the heat-insulating material, you can significantly save on heating the house.

You also need to take care of the interior decoration of the room. Most commonly used wooden panels or other materials of suitable properties and textures.

    • After the roof is ready, you can start installing window structures, if required by the original project plan. They can be either inclined or straight, depending on the design solution, however, they must be installed as correctly as possible and equipped with airtight fasteners that do not let cold air into the space.
    • Well, the final stage in the construction will be the internal finishing work and the arrangement of furniture according to the plan.

Following this simple list of steps, you can get a reliable and durable building that meets all even the most unusual needs of residents.

One of the most difficult stages is the creation of a project plan, since it is the development of the plan that includes the most difficult process of selecting materials.

Properly selected materials for the attic must meet the following basic requirements:

    • They must be durable. After all, the building must retain its original state for for many, many years, since the house is still a long-term building, and rebuilding every 5-6 years is too expensive, and it is not advisable.
    • In addition to durability, the material chosen should also be light enough not to create additional stress on the foundation, especially if it was not initially reinforced. In addition, there are materials that can reduce the load on the base and lower floors.

Since the construction process determines the construction of the walls as the first stage, the choice of material for them is a top priority. So, most often, timber or wood is used for walls. This choice is due to the fact that often a cottage or a village house is built from a log or log house, which are the most popular materials for houses of this kind.

Besides, it is advisable to use aerated concrete or gas silicate blocks. This material is lighter than standard concrete, and the construction process is quite simple. For the construction of separating thin partitions inside the attic, it is better to use ordinary drywall, which also belongs to the category of lightweight materials for construction.

Next, you need to decide on the material that can be used to insulate the space being built. The most common option is mineral wool or polystyrene foam.. These are also fairly light materials, the use of which does not require large financial costs, and at the same time they are easy to mount, and the insulation effect will be quite high.

In some cases, the most common foam sheet with sufficient thickness is used, it is also able to protect the room from too serious a decrease in temperature.

There are two main requirements for interior decoration material. It must be non-flammable, and also have a high degree waterproofing, it is this factor that will protect the room from the negative influence of moisture from the street, and its ingress.

Here you can use special plastic panels or drywall for wall decoration.

When choosing a roofing material, it is necessary to take into account the fact that it must have excellent water-repellent impregnation, which will also help protect against leaks and damage to the interior. attic space.

Roof material can be chosen based on personal preferences and, of course, the color preferences of the owner of the house. So, you can opt for a metal tile or sheets of corrugated board.

    Ideas for different areas

It is worth starting construction only with a clear construction plan in hand, a drawing of the future house indicating exact dimensions, selected materials, a sketch of furniture placement and, if necessary, partitions that will divide the attic into several rooms.

Today, on the construction market, you can easily find ready-made standard designs of houses with attics for completely different sizes and purposes. So, usually in the attic they have cozy office or a reading area, a billiard room or a gym, a relaxation area or a bedroom will also be an excellent option. The bedroom looks especially interesting, as sloping ceilings and slanted windows add a special romance and charm to the room.

If you plan to independently develop a plan, it is advisable to use special computer programs, they will help to make more accurate calculations and immediately see the variant of the final result, which will help to evaluate it already in the process of developing the layout.

If you turn to specialists and choose already ready plan on the market, you can find projects for houses with the following overall dimensions frame: 6x6, 7x8, 6x9, 8x8, 10x10, 10x12, 6x4, 6x7 m.

However, among them it is possible to single out the options that are in the greatest demand, for them there are also some features and rules.

A typical one-story house with dimensions of 6x6 m- this is an excellent example of a small garden house or a summer cottage in a summer cottage. The area of this option will be a total of about 50 square meters.

Among the advantages of this option, the following important aspects can be distinguished:

    • Firstly, these dimensions will be quite enough for the rest of an ordinary average family.
    • Secondly, this option is the least expensive financially, since it requires less material consumption, and the plan itself will cost less.

    • If the area of the site is small, it is a house of this size that will help save usable space for planting plants or arranging a personal area.
    • Another plus can be considered the fact that such a house will initially require less heating and other utility costs.

You can also highlight a few tips that will help expand the space and add comfort to the finished home. So, for example, to save useful space, you can easily combine some functional areas in one room. It is advisable to combine the bathroom and toilet, while it is not necessary to install a full-fledged bath, you can limit yourself to a high-quality shower room, which, due to its design, will create the effect of different zones.

Also you can connect the kitchen and dining room or living room. It will also save space, and with proper planning and arrangement of furniture, it will bring comfort to the room.

If you organize the right storage area in the hallway, you can avoid cluttering up other functional areas, which will also help expand the usable space.

House size 9x9 m is also a fairly popular and sought-after layout option. It is already advisable to complete 2 floors here. The foundation of such a house is initially stronger and able to withstand heavy loads than the foundation of 6x6 m.

The classic distribution of functional areas in a house of 150 square meters and with a layout of 9x9 m is as follows: on the ground floor, most often there is an entrance hall, a bathroom, a kitchen, a living room, and also, if desired, one bedroom, in principle, the first floor is a standard set of the most necessary premises. On the second floor, you can place several guest rooms or an additional bedroom, an office, a gym, a library, a games room and other spaces at the request of the tenant.

In addition, such a house usually assumes the presence of a narrow porch and balcony, this will help to visually lengthen the space, especially if the porch and the ledge of the balcony are connected by beams.

This building option is also suitable for an average family, but guests can easily accommodate here. Utilities also do not require large expenditures. Besides, If you choose the right materials for thermal insulation, you can significantly save on heating.

For the construction of a cottage, the most popular size is a log house 10x10 m. It can be used both for the construction of one-story and three-story structures.

Here you can give free rein to your imagination and think over the location of functional areas in completely different combinations and options.

It is this size that is most often used in construction. This is due to the fact that externally the house has a fairly small size and can easily fit on any average plot, while the internal capacity is quite high.

Here you can place several bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, a bathroom, a dining room, a library and any other necessary premises. In addition, if such a house will have more than one floor, with proper organization of stairs, you can organize storage spaces right in the steps, which will significantly save space and help to avoid its clutter.

When choosing this layout option, it is necessary to take into account some features. So, for example, on each floor it is necessary to place a separate toilet room, as well as take care of a place for a boiler room, which will help save money on utility bills.

Besides, taking into account the larger area and number of storeys, it is important to additionally strengthen the foundation of the house, significantly strengthen the ceilings and walls of the lower floors, as well as take care of a special waterproofing impregnation or layer of material for the roof space.

However, when choosing any of the above sizes, it is worth remembering that stairs must lead to the attic; there are, of course, options when there is a hatch in the ceiling through which they enter the attic along ladder However, this is not the most convenient option. So, if it is planned to erect a full-fledged staircase leading to the attic floor, it is important to initially include this building in the project plan.

Stairs should not interfere with the opening or closing of doors, block aisles, or otherwise hinder movement in the house.

    Popular design options

The layout of the attic space has a rather complex shape for arranging residential premises. The slope of the roof, the special shape of the windows, the presence of beams and the special interior finish - all this dictates special options for the design of the room. This can be both a plus and a minus.

So, the attic is always a fairly secluded space, movement throughout the territory in full height rather limited, but it is possible to create a unique romantic design. Turn sometimes dirty and cluttered space into a magical corner for sleeping, working, relaxing or other activities.

The choice of the destination of the future room will largely be determined by the angle of inclination of the ceiling group, as well as the location of the windows. One of the most common options for arranging a room with the lowest possible ceilings is to place a bedroom there.

This choice is due to the fact that being in the bedroom, a person spends more time in a horizontal position, which means that the uneven distribution of the ceiling will not affect the convenience of being in this space. Vice versa, low ceilings will add romance, intimacy to the bedroom, and slanted windows will allow you to admire the starry sky, which will add even more charm to a secluded corner for lovers.

The design of the space usually takes place using the classical style. Simple furniture, light colors will help visually expand the space. When choosing materials, you need to remember: if the space has very small dimensions, it is better to abandon large prints and too dark colors. If you want to add dark colors, it is better to limit yourself to some small dark accents.

It is better to start the interior arrangement with the most necessary large pieces of furniture, such as a bed and a chest of drawers, or a linen closet, but if there is still space left, you can supplement the composition with bedside tables, armchairs or other necessary elements.

With very low ceilings, you can equip a Japanese-style bedroom, a tatami bed, which will be located almost on the floor, light colors and a minimum of furniture will help create a comfortable and at the same time bright interior.

One of the most simple solutions consider the arrangement in the attic room of the living room. However too low ceilings will not allow you to create the right interior. It is better to place the living room in a fairly large room, where the ceilings have a greater rise than in the bedroom.

The living room initially involves more movement and furniture, because the height of the ceiling here has a dominant role.

Light colors in the decoration, light or transparent furniture, bay windows - all this will provide air and additional light in the space.

When choosing accessories, it is necessary to ensure that they are kept in the same style, otherwise the integrity of the room will be lost, and all efforts will be meaningless.

When creating the perfect living room, you can refer to various design solutions and choose a style that will be in harmony with the rest of the rooms in the house.

The following styles are most common:

    • Classic. The most sophisticated option that does not lose its popularity. Luxurious, but at the same time elegant furniture, soft deep colors, a full-fledged chandelier, heavy curtains - this is what will become the hallmarks of a classic-style living room. The use of corner sofas can also be considered a characteristic feature of a classic interior.

    • Provence will help create a gentle and romantic atmosphere in the attic frame house. Light natural shades, floral prints, light furniture from natural materials, these elements are able to create a Provence-style space. This option will be great solution for a house with a veranda.
    • High tech will require the so-called shine. Chrome-plated and steel parts, other elements with a reference to technological progress will add zest and create a link to a specific style decision.

    • In addition, popular minimalism style, since the space is usually small, a minimum of furniture, the absence of massive decorations and excessively large bright spots will be an excellent solution for this kind of room.

Under the roof, you can also place a kitchen or dining room. However, this project cannot be spontaneously implemented, the layout must be laid down during the initial design of the building, since the kitchen requires special communications. The supply of water, electricity, and, if necessary, also gas, requires special communication with the source of this or that good.

So, communication with the basement is most often required, because it is there that the boiler room is often located, which will be the distribution center.

In addition, care must be taken to use only non-combustible materials in the interior decoration of the room, since hob will be placed in the part of the room where the roof slope forms the lowest point. When choosing furniture, you can give preference to modules and options for L-shaped blocks, which will help create the most comfortable workspace, and also do not overload the room.

In the process of building an attic room for the kitchen, you must immediately consider sufficiently large windows, because the natural light will be the best option for such a space.

Uneven ceiling heights and wall reliefs can be a great help to create perfect interior children's room, it gives additional decor options. You can define several functional areas for playing, studying, sleeping.

In addition, high inclined windows are the safest option for a nursery, and the height of the ceiling will not hinder the movements of its little owner, he will have his own world, into which adults are ordered to go.

Often the attic becomes a full-fledged library or office.. This is probably due to the privacy and comfort that can be obtained from this space. Arranging shelves with books on the walls, a comfortable chair, a good lamp - this is what an ideal library consists of, and if you add a table here, you get a full-fledged office for work.

You can equip the space under the roof for a dressing room, this will help save space in the house, get rid of bulky cabinets. Here you can place racks for shoes, a wardrobe for clothes and linen, as well as place several large mirrors in front of which you can spin, dressing up in one or another outfit from the wardrobe.

    How to calculate everything?

The calculation of the roof under the attic has its own characteristics, it is much higher than usual, which means that it requires more detailed and special calculations. Together with the height of the roof, the angle of the slope and the height of the ridge increase. A detailed plan will help to avoid mistakes - a drawing of the roof structure, but it is better to entrust the calculations to professionals or use a special online calculator , which is designed to help make the correct calculations.

Calculations must begin with the definition total area attic. This indicator will directly depend on the total area of the house, as well as on the design features of the roof.

The attic area will consist of two main indicators. These include the useful zone and the so-called dead zone. It is logical that the useful zone is simply a place where you can move more or less comfortably, which means that, as a rule, it is the middle of the room, you can also call all places where the wall height exceeds 90 centimeters a useful zone. The deaf zone, respectively, can be attributed to lower rates.

These zones are usually used for storing things and placing some kind of low furniture, since the movement of people in them is extremely inconvenient, and sometimes completely impossible.

Therefore, at the planning stage, the roof slope must be distributed so that as a result there are as few dead zones as possible, a specialist architect or an online calculator can also help here.

To obtain the most accurate calculation using the program, it is necessary to enter the slope of the roof, the number of slopes, as well as the selected roof shape in the presented fields.

To date, define the following options roof shapes:

    • Shed roof. The most simple design, it is created by laying a roof on walls that are at different heights. However, despite the fact that this is one of the cheapest models, using it for the attic is not the best thing. the best solution, since this arrangement results in too large a dead zone.

    • gable. No less simple and economical option, but much more suitable for a typical attic, since such a roof forms a fairly high middle part.
    • hip type roof shape. This option is most suitable for large houses. In addition, it resists winds and other natural influences well, which makes the hip option the most preferred and safest.

In addition to these standard structures, some varieties are also used, their choice will depend on the purpose of the building, as well as on its shape and size. So for hangars are used semicircular roofs, for large square houses hipped roofs.

So, having decided on the type of roof, you can proceed to the basic calculations.

The following metrics will be included:

    • Roof ridge height. This is the highest point of the roof, which is used in the construction, for example, for gable roof the height of the ridge will be the measurement of the height to the highest midpoint. And the room in the project of a house with a shed roof will have highest point from the higher wall.

    • Roof weight. This is the second indicator that should also be taken into account in the calculations. This item is calculated using the sum of the specific gravity of 1 square weight of the roof, insulation, elements of the truss system, as well as interior decoration. According to the rules, the weight should not exceed 50 kilograms per 1 square meter.
    • Total area of roof slopes. Here, to determine the indicator, it is necessary to multiply the length by the width of the roof surface. If the roof consists of several slopes and elements, it is necessary to calculate the perimeter of each roof element, and then add the result.

The obtained measurements must be entered into similar cells of the online calculator and the calculations necessary for the construction will be obtained. However do not unconditionally trust the online assistant, most often this calculation is approximate, and with it you can only purchase the required amount of materials, no one can do an accurate calculation better than a professional architect.

We create harmony of interior and exterior

To obtain harmonious interior and the exterior of the attic, it is necessary to carefully choose materials and correctly combine them with each other. So, from the outside, the attic should have a lining of the same material as the whole house, otherwise it will stand out, creating dissonance in the appearance of not only the attic, but the house as a whole.

inside the same beautiful interiors will depend on the correct selection of finishing materials.

In finishing the ceiling, it is important to take into account the nuances of the structure, the quality and type of roofing, and the shape of the roof. It is best to stop the choice on sheets of drywall or lining. These materials are not only suitable for almost any chosen design option, since they can be painted, pasted over and fastened with various decorative elements, but they also have additional waterproofing, which is an excellent option for finishing the attic.

A great option for the ceiling is also wallpapering, but it’s better to first sew up the ceiling with drywall sheets, so pasting will be more convenient and easier than on the rough finish of the interior of the roof.

Wood is most often used in wall decoration.. Clapboard or wooden panels create not only a unique interior, but also a connection with the exterior of the house, which, of course, is an interesting solution.

If you want to create a more classic interior, you can paste over the walls with wallpaper, but here you need to remember that too dark a color can hide the volume of the room, and the attic is usually small anyway. Therefore, it is better to opt for white or beige options.

There are also special requirements for the floor, it is designed in case of unpleasant incidents with the attic in the form of, for example, flooding during rain to create additional protection for the lower floor. Therefore, in addition to finishing, which will create an appearance, it is also necessary to take care of the internal heat, noise and waterproofing. But on top you can use various wooden coatings, good option become parquet or laminate, there is also a kind of lining for the floor. You can put a fluffy carpet on the floor.

The harmony of the internal and external appearance of the attic can be achieved with the help of properly selected windows. One of distinctive features attic is the presence of a large number natural light, so windows are almost a top-priority waste when building an attic.

If there is a desire to place not one, but several windows in the room, you should choose one wall and install them on it.

Windows can have completely different sizes, but it is worth remembering that the maximum window size will depend on the length of the roof slope, because it cannot exceed this measurement.

Today on the market there are several options for a window for attics:

    • Vertical - a standard option that is installed in a straight wall of the attic, as a rule, it is located from the face or end of the house.
    • Inclined are installed directly into the roof slope, which allows you to get an interesting effect.
    • In addition, there is a variant of windows for flat roofs.

All windows can be made from various materials, can be equipped different amount sashes and be installed in different planes, ideally combining the interior decoration of the room with its external arrangement.

    Spectacular examples for inspiration

Decor country house with an attic can be made both in one color, and combine several different shades, the main thing is that they match in tone. Highlighting the attic with a different shade will help create a special effect.

Country or garden house mansard type most often has a gable roof and a pronounced triangular slope, the use of dark wood beams for decoration will help emphasize the shape of the roof and its uniqueness.

On private plots, you can often find a cottage with an attic, which goes to a ledge with a balcony, such a move can also create an interesting effect, especially in combination with a porch, which are combined into a single group using wooden columns.

To begin with, it is worth understanding what an attic is and how it differs from an attic. Both of these rooms in the house are located under the roof. Many often confuse them, because they do not see the difference. The attic floor is the last in the house, it is located directly under the roof, but is designed for people to live at any time of the year. It must be insulated, supplied with electricity, water and heating. The facades of the attic and attic are completely or partially formed by the roof. The main difference between the premises and the second or third floor in a cottage or a country house is the height of the walls. It means the distance from the floor to the intersection of the facade with the roof. It should not exceed 1.5 m, according to the conditions prescribed in SNiP. If the height is a little more, then this is already a full-fledged floor.

The attic is a cold, non-residential area. It can be equipped for summer holidays, but it is not possible to winter in such a room. Usually in attics they equip storages of unnecessary things. However, the practice of warehousing trash is gradually fading away. If the room is intended for the location of communications, a boiler room, engineering equipment, then the attic is called the technical floor. They are more common in apartment buildings. Another important difference between the attic and the attic is the presence of large windows, sometimes even built into the roof. For non-residential premises lighting doesn't really matter. Projects of houses with an attic can be purchased ready-made from design bureaus. The only way to get a free plan is to prepare it yourself, which will require a certain amount of knowledge. Let's talk about design features attic floors, options for their arrangement and popular styles that embody under the roofs of houses.

    Features of attic floors

The project of a house with an attic is ideal for those who want to use the area of the building to the maximum. In this respect, the additional living space is similar to the basement. Previously, basements were used exclusively for storing trash and equipment. Now basements are equipped with game rooms, home cinemas, garages, saunas or laundries (as in typical American houses). It is impossible to build an attic without a plan-drawing. So construction work indeed, everyone can cope, although here they often turn to companies that practice the construction of turnkey facilities. But to correctly calculate the loads on the foundation, think over the location of all structural elements, calculate the consumption of materials, only a professional who has experience and a baggage of specialized knowledge can do it.

Before construction, several draft sketches are prepared - in section and from different viewpoints, and at the same time indicate the scale. The drawing must mark the location of window openings, staircase-entrance, communication lines, indicate the shape and indicate the dimensions. The most popular configuration among attics is rectangular or square. A simple task seems only in words. Getting down to business, the layman is lost and does not even know where to start. The attic attracts with an abundance of light and fresh air. Its outer "box" includes two components:

    • Vertical (frontal) walls. They are usually made from the same material as the facade of the house, as they are its logical continuation.
    • Inclined wall (side). It “starts” from a vertical surface (attic wall), and then the roof truss system serves as its frame. Cast outer skin roof protrudes from the ceiling. To increase the attic area, change the angle of the roof and increase the height of the attic walls.

In log houses, vertical walls are built of wood. If the building is brick, then brick is also used for the attic. Sometimes vertical walls are sheathed decorative materials to match the rest of the façade. This is necessary in cases where you need to update the exterior to fit it into the landscape design. suburban area, or when the building itself has an unsightly appearance. For example, it was erected from expanded clay concrete, gas silicate, expanded clay, cinder blocks or gas blocks. Such materials have an unattractive appearance and are necessarily masked under a layer of finishing. For these purposes, use porcelain stoneware, siding, decorative panels "under the brick" or stone. Sometimes the outside walls are trimmed with wood. The material looks very beautiful, but it is less practical than more durable counterparts. Insulation becomes a prerequisite for arranging an attic. Part of the task of keeping the heat in the room lies with the decorative cladding that protects the walls from the outside. Inside, they are covered with heat and vapor barrier, between the layers of which mineral wool and polystyrene are placed. Then they communicate and carry out finishing. Further, the design and distribution of functional areas on the attic floor, furniture placement, and decoration come into play.

There is also such a thing as a half-attic. This is originally a residential floor, which is combined with the roof. The design has expressive architecture and original appearance. The semi-mansard floor is also used for permanent residence. The height of its walls does not exceed 0.8 m.

Advantages and disadvantages of houses with an attic

The attic floor has both a number of advantages and a small list of disadvantages. The advantages include the following aspects:

    • If the arrangement of the attic was not originally included in the plans during the construction of the house, then due to it the living area can be increased even without leaving the dacha or cottage. The construction will proceed on its own, and the rest of the rooms can still be used, that is, the construction is carried out independently. This practice is quite common when the family grows and housing becomes too cramped over time. This, perhaps, is the main advantage of the additional mezzanine.
    • Properly equipped attic will help reduce the heat loss of the building. This will reduce the load on heating system and more economical energy consumption.
    • The original architectonics of the ceiling is ideal for unusual modern trends, where the configuration is the basis of the composition.
    • The best insolation. Since the attic is a priori higher than any other room in the house, it receives more light. If the windows are built into the roof, then the sun's rays enter the room directly even at noon.
    • The attic opens up wide possibilities for space planning. Initially, the floor does not have internal walls, so the decision on the placement of rooms, their dimensions (width and length) is made only by the owners of the house. The layout does not require the demolition of partitions or significant changes. You can create zoning literally from scratch.
    • Good ventilation. The height at which the attic is located contributes to rapid air exchange.

The disadvantages include the following factors:

    • The need for air conditioning in hot summers. The roof heats up very quickly and gives off heat to the attic, located closer to the rest of the rooms. Unfortunately, in hot weather, in the absence of air conditioning, there will be a real “steam room”, like in a bathhouse.
    • Some psychologists believe that not having a traditional "smooth" ceiling over their heads, many people may experience discomfort. The complex architecture of a sloping roof looks very unusual and beautiful, however, an excessive pile of details can really cause irritation over time. The configuration is easy to correct with the help of a special finish, decor, color scheme.
    • The high cost of special skylights, which will have to be bought for spacious rooms, where openings on the gables alone will not be enough.
    • With mistakes in construction, decoration, thermal insulation, you can get a “cold” attic, which even the most powerful heating boiler will not save in winter.
    • The accumulation of snow in winter on the glass of skylights, which will create an obstacle for light to enter the room.
    • No type of soundproofing will completely eliminate rain "rustles" - the sounds of drops colliding with the roof. And it does not matter what type of coating is selected (soft or hard). Although psychologists believe that the sound of water has a healing, calming effect, sometimes it can be very annoying.

By the way, another advantage can be considered simplicity when placing a fireplace or stove. Stove heating can also be considered as an option. So it will be possible to save on the consumption of other resources (gas, electricity) and create comfortable conditions in the attic winter time with the help of "live fire" from coal or firewood.

    Attic floor device

To properly plan, you need to consider a number of the following factors:

    • Living space. Its dimensions directly depend on the type of roof. Some varieties create too many zones that cannot be used appropriately. The most economical option is hip roof. Its truss system, in contrast to the gable system, allows you to use every meter of the attic without "deaf" zones.
    • Budget. If it is very modest, then you will have to be content with a shed roof, as it is one of the cheapest options.
    • Snow and wind load. Precipitation should slide freely from the roof, and not accumulate on it. In this case, slope matters. If it is calculated incorrectly, then precipitation will create an additional load on the roof, which it may not withstand.
    • Choice suitable material for the truss system. Many mistakenly believe that wood falls under the taboo. In fact, SNiP allows the use of a tree if it has been properly processed beforehand. Here, the condition regarding the maximum height of the building is also observed - no more than 75 m, that is, an increased number of storeys. Of course, for private households, such figures are considered sky-high. On average, even for every three-story house there are more than twenty ordinary one-story buildings.
    • Condition of the foundation and facade. It takes into account not only the material from which the house was built, but also the terms of its operation, additional loads, general appearance (presence of cracks or other damage). Based on this, choose a certain truss system and roofing material.
    • Loads on the walls of the house and the foundation. Some types of roofs (single-pitched) distribute loads unevenly, that is, one side of the building may need to be further strengthened. Without knowledge in this area, it is easy to make a mistake that threatens to turn into a collapse.

All these nuances must be taken into account when designing an attic. Additional floors with bay windows or terraces look luxurious. In the second case, the home has access to the open air overlooking the courtyard, securely protected by a canopy. Such verandas are sometimes glazed. Bay windows most often repeat similar protrusions on the lower floors in shape.

    roof trusses

A truss truss is a truss system on which a roof is supported. In fact, this is the “backbone”, the skeleton of the attic, on which layers of roofing, thermal insulation, communication lines, and interior decoration are “put on”. The truss truss consists of a number of components, the competent combination of which allows you to evenly distribute the load on the load-bearing walls of the house:

    • Mauerlat. It is a log or beam, which is laid on a load-bearing wall. In fact, this is the "foundation" of the truss truss.
    • Skate and side runs. These are beams that are horizontal. The first is placed directly under the ridge, and the rest are slightly lower, perpendicular to the rafter "legs".
    • Struts, struts, diagonal connections - a system of communicative elements.
    • Overhead and hanging rafters.

Since the loads on mansard roof quite large, the truss truss must have a margin of safety. It provides a high-quality connection between the individual components of the system. Most often, bolts, screws, welding or the groove-comb type are used for these purposes. The frame scheme of the truss truss is chosen depending on the type of roof that will cover the attic floor. Also take into account the distance between the outer load-bearing walls. If it does not exceed the value of 6.5 m, then layered rafters are chosen. In other cases, resort to hanging supports. They are mounted on a puff and on a Mauerlat. If necessary, the structure is reinforced with additional connecting links.

    Roof construction

The shape of the attic directly depends on the type of roof. The additional floors themselves can be rectangular, broken, triangular, asymmetric. Attics can be located above the entire house or only above part of it. Roofs, depending on the shape, are classified into the following types:

    • Shed.
    • Gable.
    • Tri-slope.
    • Dome (conical, pyramidal).
    • Four-slope.

Tri-slope and domed in the attic are very rare due to the complex architecture. The former were popular back in Tsarist Russia, when the exquisite design of the house was an indicator of the family's wealth. Dome are very complex structure with no less "tangled" roof truss. Greenhouses in wealthy mansions used to be hidden under round roofs made of transparent materials. Judging by the sophistication of architecture, such a roof is a grandiose structure, impressive and eye-catching. From a material point of view, such construction will be very expensive, and therefore is not always justified. Four-sided are classified into four subspecies:

    • Hip.
    • Tent.
    • Half hip
    • Hip-pediment.

In the tent ridge is completely absent. Attics under the roofs of the three remaining types have a broken architectonics, which is not as pronounced as in gable roofs. For this reason, this nuance can be attributed to advantages, not disadvantages.

    Shed

The design of a shed roof is considered the simplest. The roof is fixed load-bearing walls inclined. This roof architecture is laconic and even borders on primitivism. For single-sided options, the angle of inclination is of great importance. If it is calculated incorrectly, then precipitation will accumulate, and the load on the roof will increase. Mansards under shed roofs are not equipped very often. The room will have an asymmetrical shape due to the different heights of the opposite walls. But in shed roof windows are easily built in, which look very neat and consistent in one row.

    gable

Gable or gable roofs are quite easy to install and are considered a classic option for arranging attic floors. As the name implies, such structures have two slopes that intersect at the top and abut against the ridge. Both planes "look" in different directions. Gable roofs are classified into three subspecies:

    • Symmetrical. The slopes diverge at the same angles and are mirror images of each other. The pediment has a simple configuration of an isosceles triangle, and the ridge is located in the center of the structure.
    • Asymmetrical. The ridge of such roofs is displaced relative to the conventional center of the house. Stingrays have equal length. Sometimes they are also called: "offset ridge" roofs.
    • With broken slopes. This type of roof was specially designed for attics and attics. Broken slopes allow you to increase the area of the under-roof space.

The most popular version of a gable roof is a “convex” one with broken slopes. The ridge is located strictly in the center, and the pediment has the shape of an irregular but symmetrical pentagon.

    Roof selection

Range roofing materials truly astounding. If earlier they managed with traditional slate laid on roofing material, now the layman's eyes run wide at the sight of a wide choice. Depending on the rigidity, materials are classified into two types:

    • Soft (bituminous tiles).
    • Rigid (slate, metal tile).

When choosing a material, also pay attention to the configuration of the roof. Not every type of roof is suitable for complex, broken structures. The most durable and beautiful option will become a natural tile, which is made of clay by firing. The material will be very expensive, but the service life - more than 150 years - fully pays for the cost. The second place in popularity is shared by asbestos-cement slate and metal tiles. The first is a mixture cement base with reinforcing asbestos fibres. Although for last years many competitors have appeared, it still occupies a leading position in the market. Slate can be flat or wavy. Its classic color is gray, but some manufacturers color the material in bright shades. The average service life of slate is 30 years. Metal tile is an imitation of the ceramic material of the same name, made of galvanized steel, which is covered with a protective polymer film on both sides. The texture and coloring of the material mimics the original in detail. The average service life of a metal tile is 15 years. It is fireproof, easy to install, durable and inexpensive. Slightly less popular are ondulin, corrugated steel sheets and piece composite, slate, bituminous, cement-sand tiles. For roofs of complex configuration, it is better to use soft roofing material.

Windows and how to open them

On the attic floors they use both ordinary vertical windows (embedded in gables) and special inclined ones. They are located on the roof. Windows are called "mansard" windows. They literally look "at the sky" and give an indescribable feeling during the rain or starry nights when you can fall asleep admiring the magnificent landscape. They are distinguished by the type of opening. Conventional swivel or tilt-and-turn mechanism skylights does not occur. The only exception will be the "hatches" in the roof. Due to the specifics of the location (at an angle), more often such double-glazed windows are equipped only with folding or sliding systems. Look luxurious in the attic panoramic windows located on the gables. There are also miniature "balconies" equipped with a folding mechanism. They open access to a small porch with a fence, a kind of mini-terrace.
