What happens and how penofol is used

A layer of foamed polyethylene in a foam sheet containing air bubbles, due to which, in fact, insulation occurs, can be a layer from 3 to 10 mm. The foil layer in all modifications of penofol is the same, but can be welded on one side (type "A") or on both sides (type "B"). There is also penofol, which has foil on one side, and an adhesive layer on the other - “self-adhesive” penofol (type “C”). In addition, there is penofol with one layer of foil, which is laminated on top with a layer of polyethylene (ALP type).

Penofol type "A" is usually attached to another insulation (polystyrene, styrodur) with staples or nails. Type "C" can be glued on them or directly on the base. Type "B" is used for stand-alone mounting.

How to lay penofol on a concrete floor

Cold floor for insulation should first be poured concrete screed with expanded clay, but it can be replaced by a layer of foam plastic with a thickness of 5 to 10 cm. A layer of penofol (type "A" or "C") is attached or glued to the foam plastic with an overlap on the walls of 10 cm on each side. Joints are glued with aluminum tape.

The moisture from which penofol protects the structure, not being able to pass through it, will settle on it. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to arrange a space for ventilation with air vents above the foil layer of penofol - holes through which air can freely pass in order to remove this moisture. To do this, slats 1.5-2 cm wide are stuffed onto the penofol from the side of the foil, creating space for air movement. Logs can play the same role if it is decided to lay a wooden floor. Logs and slats need to be impregnated with an antiseptic or drying oil. They should be laid along the entire length of the floor, retreating 1-2 cm from the walls in increments of 35-40 cm. Boards 2-3 cm thick are laid perpendicular to the lags, and a sheet of plywood 12 mm thick is laid on top. You can use plywood 6-8 mm, but lay it in two layers. The finish can be linoleum or laminate.

This insulation consists of two layers - a base and a reflective coating. As a basis, classic heat insulators are used - foamed polyethylene, expanded polystyrene, mineral wool and other materials. The reflective coating is a polypropylene metallized film or a thin layer of aluminum foil. The thickness of the insulation directly depends on the type of base.

If the floors are very cold, after laying the foil material, logs are mounted from a bar, set them horizontally, the space between the logs is filled with ordinary insulation, and plank floors or sheet material are mounted on top.

Step 1. Floor slabs are thoroughly cleaned and irregularities are eliminated with putty or cement mortar.

Step 2. Roll reflective thermal insulation is laid, tightly joining the material. Glue all joints with metallized tape.

Step 3. A heating cable or heating pipes are laid out over the insulation according to the project.

Step 4. A thin film of polyethylene is laid over the heating elements, which will protect the foil coating from the aggressive effects of the cement screed.

Step 5 Knead the solution and pour the leveling screed. When the surface is dry, you can lay the final floor.

Warming along the lags

Step 1 Remove the floor covering, clean the base from debris, check the integrity of the lag, and, if necessary, repair the damaged elements.

Step 2. A waterproofing material is laid on top of the logs and fixed with a stapler with inside bars, spreading the film well on the floor. The edges of the canvases overlap by 10-15 cm.

Step 3. The space between the lags is filled with foil plates, laying them in one or two layers. The plates of the second layer must necessarily overlap the seams of the lower layer. A gap of 1.5-2 cm is left between the reflective coating and the upper edge of the log. If the gap cannot be left, a crate of 20x40 mm slats is stuffed on top of the logs.

Step 4. Further actions depend on the type of flooring. If it is linoleum or laminate, the rough base is covered with sheet material - plywood, chipboard, OSB. If the floor is made of boards, they are stuffed directly onto the logs.
