Do-it-yourself plywood box: drawing, tools and manufacturing features. How to make a tool box: choose a shape and drawing for self-production Homemade tool case

Reading time ≈ 5 minutes

A real owner always takes care of the safety of his tools. Even a small set should be stored in an orderly, neat manner. A skilled craftsman can assemble a container for tools and fixtures on their own. Below we will talk about how to make a tool box with your own hands. The presented photos and videos will help in the work.

Outwardly, the box looks solid and stylish, it immediately declares a serious approach to the life of its owner. Its dimensions (70x40x45 cm), i.e. 70 cm wide, 40 cm deep, 45 cm high. This is quite enough to accommodate a hand tool. The drawer has 3 drawers, as well as a top hinged lid that opens up a spacious compartment. This box allows you to protect tools from dust, organize safe storage.

Required Tools

To make a wooden box, you will need the following tools:

  • a circular saw;
  • milling machine;
  • grinder;
  • clamp;
  • a hammer;
  • wire cutters;
  • file;
  • wood saw;
  • chisel.

Step-by-step instructions for making a tool box

The optimal material for the manufacture of the frame is oak wood. This is an excellent durable material, which is durable and resistant to mechanical stress. It is better to take as a basis - glued boards with a thickness of 19 mm. This material has no knots and rotten inclusions. With the help of a circular cut a strip 38 mm wide.

So that when gluing individual elements did not move relative to each other, a carnation is driven into the first part a little, its cap is removed with wire cutters, and then a second board is stuffed onto the protruding sharp tip.

The boards are additionally coated with glue and fixed.

The glue that has come out at the joints of the parts is removed with a chisel, you just have to wait for the glue to dry a little.

The result should be a 38x38 mm part. Its butt is polished.

The edge must be cut strictly at an angle of 90 °, so when cutting the part to the desired length, one must not forget about the cut angle.

This technique will help to ensure the accuracy of the cut angle.

The location of each part is marked so as not to get confused during assembly.

A groove is cut in each part along the entire length, it must go strictly in the center.

The grooves can be made either with a stationary circular saw or with a milling machine.

On parts that are intended for the manufacture of vertical corner supports of the frame, transverse markings are made.

Another longitudinal groove is made in the rear corner parts. It is not needed in the front corner bearings.

For subsequent fastening in the end part of the blanks, you need to find the center, noting the point of intersection of the diagonals.

It is necessary to carefully check the compatibility of the blanks.

The blanks are processed with a file.

In a freely assembled frame, marks are made to subsequently lengthen the grooves.

The grooves are cut with a hacksaw for wood.

Remove all excess with a chisel.

These blanks are needed for drawers. A corner is sawn from the end part.

Each blank is drilled for bolting.

Observing accuracy, it is necessary to drill the prepared parts.

The part intended for fixing and dividing 2 drawers is cut out at an angle of 90°.

Having installed the details for the movement of the boxes in place and fixing them, they gradually begin to screw them.

The corners of plywood blanks are cut off, as in the photo.

The walls of the lower drawers are attached to plywood sheets with self-tapping screws.

Prepared horizontal plywood parts are attached to one side. First, this is done without the use of glue.

During fixation with clamps, it is necessary to check the diagonal so that the dimensions match.

Drawers are made from plywood.

The grooves can be cut either on a stationary saw or with a milling cutter.

Details of drawers are fastened with glue.

The side parts of the boxes must have grooves for movement along the planks fixed inside.

For strength, the side parts are fastened with dowels, which are cut flush.

For reliability when gluing, small carnations are partially driven into the surface of the front wall of the drawers, their caps are removed.

By attaching the front panels to drawers, see if the individual elements are evenly spaced.

When gluing, it is necessary to observe the utmost accuracy, there should be no gaps.

At the end, the top frame of the box is made of plywood.

To make a precise cut at a 45° angle, it is advisable to use a special tool.

The blanks for the frame are connected and fixed when glued using a tension belt.

A large and convenient tool box is the dream of any master. It is understandable, because in such a repository you can compactly put all your tools. They are not so expensive today, so one of the options is to purchase in a store or create a similar masterpiece yourself. Which option would be acceptable for you? Of course, the purchased one has a certain size, but there can be much more tools than can fit in it. But one way or another, you have to put up with it or run to the store again and buy a new one. It’s quite another thing to do it yourself: I picked up the right material and calculated it for all the available tools and even with a perspective. Comfortable? Most likely, you will agree with this argument. Therefore, we will talk in this article about how to make such a box yourself at home.

What HE should be?

If this is a home box, then it can be a regular box with a handle. Well, if you, for example, are a plumber, then it is clear that you will need a box that is more functional, roomy and durable. This role will be successfully performed by the organizer. However, in this article, as an example, consider a simple home version- a box with a handle. So, we will assume that we have decided on the type of box where we will keep all the tools we need, or almost all.

Where do we start? First, let's select the material. It can be plywood, wood or even metal, then we will make the calculations. Only then can you start drawing up a detailed drawing. This can be done in the classic way, that is, on whatman paper using a well-sharpened pencil, ruler, compass, square, etc.

The non-classical way is with the help of a special computer program. "AutoCAD" and "Compass" are just "sharpened" to make a professional accurate drawing. The advantage of such programs is that they will help to avoid errors in the calculation and, moreover, it is possible to preview in advance what you will get from all this.

These programs will only serve you well if you have certain skills in working with them.

The material was selected, and now for the manufacture it remains to assemble all the tools that we will need. Of course, the types of tools are individual. It all depends on what kind of box you want. They, too, are different. But, one way or another, there are universal tools. They are always needed. This is the measuring tool:

  • fasteners;
  • a hammer;
  • screwdriver.

Let's start manufacturing

We take the traditional material - edged board of coniferous species. As for processing, this is the simplest and most affordable material, which also has good strength properties.

As planned, it will be a wooden box, and our task now is to materialize the drawing itself into a material. For this case, we need a ruler and a pencil. After that, we mark up on the material and cut out the components of the product with a hacksaw or electric jigsaw. If we planned the usual non-closing option, then we need to make five planes: four walls and a bottom.

When assembling, it is usually best to use wood glue. The joints must be cleaned, and only then apply glue, after which we firmly compress the parts together. Be sure to let the glue dry completely.

After this operation, we can additionally strengthen the box with fasteners - self-tapping screws. Fixed. Now we need to make a handle. It can be an ordinary wooden lath, which we need to nail or screw to the upper edges of the side elements.

Organizer

Following the principle "from simple to complex", let's talk about the organizer. It is clear that you can put a large tool in the open-top box, which was written about above: hand saw, hammer, mallet and much, much more.

And where to put small things? There are all sorts of screws, bolts, nuts, etc. This small fastener tends to get lost or not be at the very moment when it is especially needed. This is where we need an organizer.

As already noted, this type of boxes, by their design, is the most functional in operation. What does he represent? It's kind of like a box on a box, or rather, a lot of drawers in one section for storing not only medium-sized tools, but also every little thing. Of course, at first glance, it may seem that it will not be easy to make such a design. But it only seems to be. Basically, difficulties arise in the manufacture of the sliding mechanism. Everything else is much easier to do. Now in more detail about manufacturing technology.

  1. We start by making the main body. It must be open and deep so that we can place various medium-sized tools (hammers, spanners etc.). We can say that the design of this main body is quite simple, but in essence it is an ordinary box that can be divided into several sections using vertical planes.
  2. The next stage is the manufacture of 4 smaller boxes. You probably noticed that the number of these sections is even, and we mentally divide them into pairs, trying to adhere to the dimensions of their lower large counterpart during manufacture. They will be stacked on top of each other. One pair of boxes (upper) will be with lids. They will be either folding on piano hinges, or retractable like a Soviet school pencil case.
  3. Now it remains to connect these boxes together. We will do this with the help of metal connecting strips. We need 6 pieces. On the one hand, and also on the other hand, we hook one plate (short) to each other in order to connect the two lower boxes to each other - small and large. Two more plates (long) will connect all the boxes together. And, finally, the longest bar will act as a handle, and at the same time connect the two upper floors of the organizer. As you can see, there is nothing complicated here, and sliding mechanism utterly simplified, as shown in the example of a metal organizer - the principle is the same.

Making a metal case for tools

Now let's talk about a homemade metal case. Don't jump to the conclusion that it's impossible. Of course, only an experienced locksmith can make an organizer out of metal on his own and with special tools and the appropriate material. Factory-made metal boxes are usually made from lightweight metals such as aluminum so that the box itself is not heavy. At home, working with aluminum is difficult.

In principle, a metal box for is loudly said. Rather, an ordinary box will be made of metal. The material that is needed to make such a box is ordinary soft galvanized steel (about 0.3 mm thick). From the tools we need:

  • square;
  • caliper (marking);
  • sharpened small core or marker;
  • ruler;
  • a hammer;
  • anvil (wide metal bar);
  • file;
  • pliers.

Then everything follows the same scenario: drawing, markup. The most interesting thing is that all this can be done right on the galvanized sheet using a sharpened core (or marker), whatever you like. We then mark with a marker on the metal those places that we have to remove.

After that, we proceed to trimming using scissors for metal.

After trimming everything superfluous, we get such a complex geometric figure (“winged rectangle”).

Now let's work a little blacksmiths. For this case, we have an anvil, and, tapping with a hammer, gently bend the edges of our workpiece. It is better to do this not randomly, but in a certain order.

First we bend one sidewall, and then we bend the other.

Now the sides in turn.

After that, let's do the bending of the protruding petals. They will make the structure itself more rigid, and it will not “play”.

Pliers can be used to wrap protruding parts on the top of the box.

After such manipulations, you should carefully walk around the entire product with a hammer, straightening it.

In this case, it turned out to be a small box. But after all, according to this principle, you can make a similar one - more, and in the end you get such a metal tool box.

So, if you want, everything is possible.

We hope that this article will be useful for you, dear readers. If your tools are in order, then supplement it with the manufacture of a regular tool box. If your instruments do not have a permanent “place of residence”, then consider building a two- or even three-story “transformer house” for it. Try to do this, and your tool will always be in place, and you yourself will be pleased to use a product made by yourself in your household.

Video

This video shows how you can make a box for tools and scrap materials:

See how you can make tool organizer cases yourself:

Every man in the house (apartment) must have a screwdriver, a hammer and at least a handful of different nails. If this is a master with "golden" hands, then you need to have a whole set of different tools for which you need a convenient box.

DIY tool box

Many tools (hammer or hacksaw) cannot always be placed in standard tool storage and carrying facilities. Therefore, craftsmen prefer to make with my own hands capacity right size. Consider the stages of work, how to make a tool box.

Material selection

Can be used: metal or plywood. But wood is considered a classic, which has long been the basis of carpentry. Therefore, it is easier to make a wooden tool box.

Type of shell

You should think in advance and measure where the chest doors and handle options will be located. The design can be open or closed to accommodate large items. It can be a large box with cells or a designer piece of art.

Interior decoration

The model can be simple for storing various little things or multifunctional: a separate row with holes for various screwdrivers, pencils, glue, pliers, etc.

Drawers with several floors are convenient, they can be inserted into each other or pulled out. The main thing is to achieve maximum order in the arrangement of parts, so that there are nails, screws, tape measure, power tools, etc. separately.

In the manufacture of a particular model, it is necessary to take into account the operating conditions:

  • storage location (apartment, basement or garage);
  • humidity level;
  • temperature;
  • frequency of use of devices and devices ( professional activity or home).

Tool box designs

Before buying a compact model for different tools, we list the types of designs:

  • The boxes are made of solid durable materials, often rectangular. There are a couple of drawers on the side. Hinged or removable lid with lock. The model is convenient for constant movement.
  • A set of boxes is a set of open trays of different sizes that are convenient for the home.

Photos of the best tool boxes

The various designs of tool boxes discussed in the article are united by the ease of doing it yourself. Choose the right project and, guided by our drawings and photographs, make yourself a convenient portable storage for the tools and equipment used in your work.

simple open box

This box is good because the tools in it are located in their places and are in sight. You can’t put many devices in it, but there is a place for the main ones. An open box is useful in household use when you need to repair something outside the workshop: they reported to the box what was missing and went to work.

A wooden tool carrier comes out heavier than factory counterparts, so you should not plan it too bulky. The box will not beat the knees if you make it narrow. The high handle also adds convenience - you don't have to bend down low to pick it up.

Pick up suitable pieces of plywood and pine board trimmings. Mark and cut out the details of the box. Select the grooves in the workpieces with a manual router or make circular saw two cuts and clean out the indentation with a narrow chisel.

Details of the box body: 1 - wall (2 pcs.); 2 - sidewall (2 pcs.); 3 - bottom; 4 - groove along the thickness of the partition and a depth of 1/2-1/3 of the thickness of the material

Sand the surfaces and assemble a rectangular box from blanks. Lubricate the ends with carpentry glue and fasten the parts with small carnations.

Saw out a central partition from 5 mm plywood, the width of which should be 1 mm less than the distance between the grooves in the walls of the box. Mark the location of the cutout for the hand, drill the entry hole for the file, and cut the plywood with a jigsaw.

Partition drawing

Spread the grooves with glue and install the partition in place.

Make two pads for the handle from a block with a section of 20x45 mm, rounding the corners of the blanks with a planer. Prepare holders for hand tools from the rails: in one, cut out recesses for pliers and pliers with a jigsaw, and in the other, drill holes for screwdrivers with a drill. Using glue and screws, fix the parts to the partition by placing them at different heights.

So that the surfaces do not get dirty for a long time, cover the box with varnish.

Toolbox in stool

In this upside down stool, you can move the tool to any place in the house or yard, and put it on its legs, reach for a shelf or hammer a nail where your height is almost not enough.

Using plywood or OSB with a thickness of 10-15 mm, cut out the cover (item 1), longitudinal sides (item 2) and sidewalls (item 3) according to the dimensions indicated on the drawings.

Make a handle and four legs with bevels at the ends at an angle of 15 ° from bars with a section of 40x50 mm.

Assemble the stool by fastening the parts with screws.

Box assembly scheme: 1 - cover; 2 - tsarga; 3 - handle; 4 - leg; 5 - sidewall

Round the edges of the cover and the oblong cut in it, apply a finishing coat.

Box for the young master

If your child enjoys crafting or repairing, make a small box with him for his favorite tools.

Take planed 16mm boards and cut out the pieces according to the drawings. Prepare a round birch stick for the handle.

Drawings of the details of the box: 1 - sidewall; 2 - bottom; 3 - handle; 4 - handle stand; 5 - holder

Draw lines parallel to the edges on the sidewalls corresponding to the positions of the handle posts, drill through holes for the screws between them.

Remove the burrs with sandpaper and proceed to assemble the box. Connect the bottom and sides with glue and screws, then install the handle stand along the marking lines.

Now replace the second post while inserting the handle into the blind holes. Screw on the screwdriver holders.

Color the box in the color your child chooses.

Wooden box with lid

The necessary set of tools differs depending on the hobby or profession, respectively, and internal organization box may be different. Next option tool carrying is suitable for any equipment, differs in solidity and reliability.

Use light wood for the box: pine, linden or poplar. Optimal Thickness planed boards - 12 mm, thinner ones are more difficult to fasten, and thick ones will increase the weight of the structure.

Required accessories:

  1. A pen.
  2. Corners - 8 pcs.
  3. Latch — 2 pcs.
  4. Loop - 2 pcs.

Mark the lumber according to the drawings and cut the blanks.

Cutting blanks for the box

Table. Parts list

Make sure the cutting is correct by folding the box out of the blanks. Sand one by one all the parts with sandpaper No. 220 and mark them. Assemble the bottom and lid of the drawer using clamps, corner clamps, or mounting brackets to secure the blanks. Lubricate both joining surfaces with wood glue.

Drill guide holes for the screws and countersink for the hats, and after fastening the parts, wipe off excess glue with a rag.

Fasten the blanks of the body of the portable part. Replace the dividing partitions by screwing them on the sides and bottom with screws.

Screw the carrying handle in the middle.

Install support rails inside the drawer at a distance of 30 mm from the top.

Clean out pencil marks and burrs near the screws with a fine sandpaper, blow dust off the surface.

Cover the box with a layer of polyurethane varnish, after drying, remove the raised pile with a “zero” and repeat the finish.

Align the hinges with the gap between the body and the lid of the box. Mark and make pilot holes for screws 10 mm deep, fasten the hinges.

Screw on the corner pieces using small screws.

Install the handle and latches on the lid.

Fill the finished box with the tool.

If desired, place containers with dividers or cassettes for storing small items in the large compartment of the drawer.

If you decide to add partitions inside the box, make them removable so that you can change the free space for a new tool.

Most often, going into most workshops, we see the following picture: drills, brushes, saws lie in a dilapidated plastic cup, screws, nails and bolts of various sizes found peace in a tin, and wrenches, screwdrivers and clamps rest quietly, hanging on a carnation under the ceiling in a disposable bag.

But there comes a day when we need to find some kind of nut of a specific diameter. We have been tinkering with all of the above for more than one hour, wasting that precious time that could have gone to the improvement of a house, a plot, or just some little thing.

This article will translate a few tricks that will help you keep the workshop not only clean and tidy, but also always know what is where.

The first trick

Self-tapping screws, screws, nails are best stored packaged in several jars with threaded lids. Just screw the lid to the bottom of any shelf and screw the jar with the contents into it. This will save you space and allow you to always recognize the details that are in the bank. Moreover, they do not take up much space, and each small bolt, screw or self-tapping screw can be packaged in size, diameter and length.

Trick two

To store keys, scissors, nuts and washers, you will need a sheet of hard fiberboard (perforated is better) and wire. Hooks are made from it, the ends of which fit snugly against each other. Nuts and washers are strung on them. And keys and other tools can be marked on hooks that are made from the same wire.

Storage of tools in your own workshop

Trick three

To store nails, screws or self-tapping screws, you can make a three or four-story box. The bottom will be molds from cupcakes or other confectionery, and the walls are made of ordinary plywood.

Trick four

To store cutters and drills, it is best to use a sheet of polystyrene or foam that is attached to the wall. Holes of the required diameter are made in it for drills and cutters. Due to the excellent elasticity of the foam or polystyrene sheets, the tools are firmly fixed and do not fall out. Plus, it's easy to extract them. With the help of such a simple invention, you can store not only drills and cutters, but also screwdrivers of various shapes, polyhedrons, drills for a puncher.

Cunning fifth

With the help of disposable plastic plates, you can make pockets for storing circles and various grinding discs. Plates must be cut in half, screwed to the wall with screws. It's best to use plates different diameters. Thus, you can immediately recognize which circle and what diameter you need.

Plastic plates for storing tools

Trick six

To store all kinds of small parts, you can make boxes that will be attached to the wall with magnets. This will require plastic containers. small sizes(preferably with a tight-fitting lid), on the bottom of which washers are glued. At the same time, a magnetic tape or magnets from the speakers must be fixed to the wall.

To store small things, boxes on beckons are suitable.

Trick seventh

To store clamps, you can make a rectangular box narrow shape. We attach the box to the wall with one side so that the clamp handles are inside, and the second part just hangs in the air.

Clamp storage

Trick eighth

In every barn or workshop, in addition to tools, you can still find all kinds of Construction Materials who are afraid of moisture. It was just for their storage that craftsmen came up with one simple little thing. First, we need to make a box one square meter in size from bars and plywood. We sheathe the walls and bottom of the finished box with foam plastic from the outside. FROM inside It is desirable to sheathe the walls with geotextiles. All this is done so that moisture cannot penetrate the stored dry mixes, and the one that nevertheless got inside does not remain on the walls of the box, but evaporates through the natural fabric.

Plywood box

Trick nine

If you have a lot of all kinds of plumbing parts in your workshop, it is best to make a multi-story box with shelves for them. To do this, we make a cube from plywood and bars and close it on three sides. Inside the box, using furniture nails, we fix several shelves from the same plywood.

Here we have all kinds of plumbing accessories on them: taps, joints, tees, half-inch slings - on the first shelf, all the same accessories, but only three-quarters of an inch - on the second shelf, and we put the inch ones to the very bottom, so as their weight is much higher than the previous ones.

If you have components of a larger radius on the farm, then you will have to slightly increase the storage space and make a few extra shelves.
Thanks to these tricks, your workshop will always be in order and it will not be difficult for you to find any tool that you need in everyday life.
