The hanging rocking chair is a comfortable place to relax, made of natural or artificial materials: rattan, nylon, plastic, metal or glass. The finished structure is hung on a ceiling hook using a long cord, chain or other method. In addition, there are types of floor products, for the installation of which you do not need to use the ceiling, because they are mounted on a special pipe bracket. Both options are distinguished by the ability to swing and spin, especially if there is enough free space around the installed chair.

Unusual ways of execution, shapes and various materials allow hand-made hanging swing chairs to be adjusted to any size and style of the room. With a competent approach, the finished product can withstand weight up to 200 kg, which makes it possible for two adults or an adult with a child to fit in it. According to the main varieties of chairs are divided into the following options:

  • wicker;
  • tissue;
  • hard;
  • soft.

All models of products must be characterized by the ability to swing in different directions or rotate. The main options for hanging chairs: cocoon, hammock, nest

Modern shopping centers provide a wide range of chair options, some of which are easy to make at home. Of course, creating a wicker hanging chair with your own hands will be easier for someone who is familiar with sewing, weaving, or at least knitting.

There will be enough work on making a chair for everyone in the family, because it is also appropriate to involve children in decorating the finished product, whose ideas are often more interesting than those of adults. Before you make a hanging chair with your own hands, you need to examine unnecessary things that take up space in the garage or pantry, because they may well become the basis for a hanging hammock or children's swing. In any case, finding and buying components for a chair is much cheaper than buying a finished product.

Making your own hanging hammock chair with a soft frame is the easiest. Unlike a hammock bed, which is distinguished by the presence of two mounts, for a hammock swing, it is enough to make only one mount, and in size it will be slightly smaller than the standard version.

To make a hanging chair-ball or nest, you will need a gymnastic hoop, but not plastic, but durable metal. Among other models, the ball is the most popular, because it has an unusual, interesting shape and a laconic design that fits into any interior. Based on personal preferences, weaving techniques, colors and decorative ornaments are selected. In addition to the hoop, for the manufacture of a ball chair it is enough to have dense textiles, wooden blocks and a decorative cord for weaving.

Swing chairs are made of various materials, while the frame can be both rigid and soft. In spite of simple design the chair looks attractive and sophisticated. Such a hanging chair is used for summer cottages, verandas, balconies, as well as for living rooms, such as a bedroom, living room or nursery. The main materials that will be required for self-production are textiles, wood bars and threads to create a seat and back.

The cocoon chair, or egg, is considered a favorite model of hanging furniture for children, because it has high sides and a small entrance. In such an armchair you can comfortably hide from prying eyes and do your favorite things in solitude: read, knit or just dream. When making a do-it-yourself hanging cocoon chair, the frame is quite rigid, and the walls are woven using various techniques using vines, rattan, twigs, or any other suitable materials.

To create a wicker chair on a rigid frame, acrylic threads, wicker, metal, plastic or rattan are used. According to reviews, the hanging chair resembles a rocking chair, which is not installed on legs, but is fixed either to the ceiling or to a tree branch. To make the base, textiles, a leather base, wooden lamellas, wicker or rattan are used.

Materials needed to make a floor or ceiling-mounted chair

There are many options for how to make a hanging chair. Consider what materials are most often used for its manufacture.

Textile. Inexpensive and affordable material that is simple and easy to work with. The strength of the finished product will depend on the type and quality of the selected canvas. To create a chair, both a canvas sewn from old but dense denim, decorated with rivets or patches, as well as raincoat fabric or tarpaulin, are suitable. The more natural the fabric, the more comfortable it will be in the swing: if the fabric does not breathe, the skin will sweat in summer.

Knitted fabric. For those who know the technique of crocheting, knitting, or even hands, it will be easy to complete such a basis. The main thing is to use dense yarn and do not make too large distances between the weaves so as not to fall through.

Weaving macrame. It involves the use of a durable cord, which is characterized by high performance. An openwork hanging macrame chair looks light and airy in the interior; it will decorate a home made in any style.

Vine. A natural material that is not only pleasant to the touch, but also has an attractive appearance. Wicker furniture looks especially beautiful on the veranda or in the living room of a chalet-style house or in an apartment with an ethnic interior. It is only important to pre-treat the branches with antifungal and anti-tick mixtures. To make the chair last longer, it is recommended to varnish it from time to time.

Rattan. Both artificial and natural rattan stand out. However, you need to know that the artificial version of the material has higher characteristics: it is designed to hold more weight- up to 200 kg, while the load on natural rattan should not exceed 120 kg. In addition, artificial rattan tolerates exposure to high humidity better and does not fade in the sun, but it has a higher price than its natural counterpart.

Interesting information! Increasingly, on the Internet you can find master classes "Hanging chairs with your own hands", where a thread from plastic bottles. Such furniture is popular because it can be used outdoors, it is not affected by moisture and gives plastic a second life.

What materials are used for the frame of hanging chairs: photo examples

If you look at photos of hanging chairs with your own hands, you can pay attention that most often a gymnastic hoop is used to make the frame. If the chair is made for a small child, it is permissible to use a plastic hoop, but still in most cases it is recommended to buy a strong metal hoop for this, which makes the structure more rigid and reliable. Other materials used to create the frame include:

  1. Metal pipe. The design will turn out to be safe and durable, but it will differ in a rather large weight of the finished product - from 7 kg and above. Other additional difficulties include the need to use special pipe bending equipment.
  2. Wood. The finished chair will be characterized by light weight, it is pleasant and warm to the touch, and also environmentally friendly. At the same time, it is necessary to remember the features wooden products which are susceptible to moisture absorption and drying out under the influence of sunlight. It is necessary to pre-treat the frame with impregnations and repeat the application at least once a month in case of active use.
  3. Metallo plastic pipes(PVC). DIY hanging chair from pvc pipes It will be not only light, but also not subject to corrosion. Due to the plasticity of the material, no additional devices are needed in order to give it the desired shape. To firmly fix the ends together, wooden or plastic bushings are used, which are additionally fastened with self-tapping screws for reliability.

Useful advice! For the manufacture of a chair, it is not worth taking materials that have pronounced defects: cracks, chips or breaks. This will not help to significantly save on production, but such a chair will serve for a very short period of time.

Basic weaving techniques for hanging swing chairs

In order to make a wicker hanging macrame chair with your own hands, several weaving techniques are used, which differ in the finished relief, the step between the links and the density. Conventionally, techniques are divided into two large groups - openwork and smooth weaving.

The smooth weaving technique provides for a minimum gap between the rods, here the following main options stand out:

  1. Basic or general weaving. Suitable for both experienced people and beginners. For work, they acquire flat, but wide ribbons, which are woven in a checkerboard pattern using a 1x1 step. It turns out a simple, but durable canvas.
  2. Banded. Initially, a vertical base is woven using a thin tourniquet. Horizontal stripes are made in increments of 2×1, with a slight shift in the pattern.
  3. Fish tail. A weave with a diagonal offset of 2x2 is used.
  4. Stairs. There is also a step 2?2, which shifts in each row in opposite directions.
  5. Christmas tree. The fabric is woven in stages. First, several starting planes are performed using step 3?2. Then each position is shifted towards in relation to the adjacent row. The result is a dense canvas with a highlighted central corner.

The technique of openwork weaving mainly involves two options for ornaments:

  1. Quadruple weave. The pattern resembles a six-pointed, acute-angled star.
  2. Hexagonal. Quite a complicated way of weaving, reminiscent of oriental motifs.

Before you start manufacturing, you should make preliminary drawings of a hanging chair with your own hands, which take into account dimensions and materials. You can create a plan yourself if you have some skills similar work, or use ready-made options from the Internet. At the same time, you can modify the finished drawing of the chair with your own hands to your taste by downloading programs available on the network that help with self-manufacturing pieces of furniture:

  • PRO100;
  • Basis-Cutting;
  • Astra Furniture Designer;
  • bCAD;
  • Basis furniture maker.

Features of the execution of a hanging hammock chair

Not the simplest, but the most convenient are do-it-yourself hanging macrame hammock chairs, for which a rigid frame is used. Most often, gymnastic hoops or PVC pipes are used for this. In addition to the macrame technique, ordinary textiles can also be used, but these hammocks do not look so airy.

The advantage of the macrame technique is that you do not need to use a sewing machine and resort to sewing. The whole structure consists of a frame and a woven fabric, the pattern of which is selected based on the complexity of manufacturing and personal preferences. So, to create a hammock chair, you will need two hoops of different diameters. A circle with a diameter of 80 cm is suitable for decorating the seat, but for the backrest, you should choose a slightly larger diameter - 110-120 cm. To braid such rings, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • about 700-900 m of polyamide or acrylic cord;
  • 12 meters of sling rope;
  • strong cord to secure the hoops;
  • wooden bars;
  • centimeter or tape measure;
  • scissors;
  • gloves.

The easiest way to work with a ring made from a PVC pipe with a cross section of about 35 mm. You can calculate the required pipe length to make a certain diameter using the formula: 3.14? ring diameter. If a base diameter of 120 cm is required, should this figure be multiplied by the number? - it will turn out 376.8 cm. This means that in order to fulfill the required diameter, you will need to use a pipe 3.77 meters long. To connect the ends of the tube to each other, you need to use wooden or plastic gaskets, additionally fixed with self-tapping screws.

The main stages of the original hammock chair

The back is made using a soft rope with a diameter of 4-5 mm or another strong, but pleasant to the touch cord, which can be found in a hardware store. The advantage of weaving with acrylic cord is the creation of strong knots that do not move under load.

Useful advice! It is better to immediately buy a cord of the required length, which will be enough to make a chair, so that later you do not have to select a material of a different color.

At the first stage of creating a chair, you need to tightly wrap the surfaces of the hoops - without gaps or sagging. To prevent the braid from moving out, after 20-25 revolutions, you need to make a tightening. After that, they proceed to the design of the seat, for this, threads are fixed on the ring from a pipe with a smaller diameter at the same distance from each other. Then, using fantasy, one of the weaving options is applied, most often it is a simple checkerboard. The knots must be flat.

Before you start decorating the back, you need to connect the hoops together. From one edge of the ring are attached as close as possible. It is on how far apart the opposite sides will be that the depth of the seat of the hammock chair depends. The back is woven either in the same pattern as the seat, or in a different one. Work begins on the design of the backrest from top to bottom, after which the ropes are tightly fixed on the bottom circle.

When the work is done, the long tails can be fringed, or the leftovers can be used to weave strong cords used for hanging. The result of the work will be an original and comfortable chair that can be installed on the street and in the apartment.

How to make your own hanging chair-egg (cocoon or ball)

According to the type of design, a self-made cocoon chair is distinguished by the maximum closeness of the internal space. Another distinguishing characteristic of the model is the high side edges that merge with the back and enclose the interior space on three sides. The shape of the chair resembles an egg, a ball or a cocoon.

You need to be prepared that the drawings of the hanging chair-cocoon are characterized by the greatest complexity, and the product itself is of considerable size and needs a strong and massive frame. For these reasons, the egg chair is one of the most difficult options to complete. For the frame, structures made of pipes or hoops are more often used, which is why the product has a rounded shape.

To complete the frame, you will need to take at least three rings, which are additionally reinforced for rigidity with the help of arcs installed perpendicular to the main hoops. Thus, the ball is divided into conditional segments. Before fixing the hoops together, as in the previous case, they must be wrapped with a synthetic cord, which is additionally glued to the base every 10 turns.

To fill the space between the segments, the same rope is used or a thinner one, which will make the weaving openwork. To add color to the product, you can purchase colored polyamide threads. In addition, wooden soft lamellas can also be useful for decoration, which will need to be drilled and firmly attached to the base.

For the seat, it is recommended to install a wooden round seat, which is complemented by a soft pillow, because the spherical bend can interfere with a comfortable stay in the ball. For convenience and creating a softer back, you can also attach a padding polyester pillow sewn by yourself.

After you have made a hanging cocoon chair with your own hands, you need to think about ways to secure it. Most simple option it is considered hanging the product by the upper part with a cord or rope. There is also a floor mount option, for which you will need to purchase a metal bar and make the base using welding.

Wicker hanging chair using vines or twigs

To make a nest chair with your own hands, you will need to first prepare the processed branches. For this, the following types of trees are suitable:

  • bird cherry;
  • rattan;
  • willow.

To make a hanging garden chair or an option for an apartment, you need to purchase the following materials:

  1. Long rods of the selected type of wood - in the amount of about 500 pieces. best diameter rods - 7-10 mm.
  2. metal pipes or hoop needed to create a strong frame. You can braid the base with rods or by using polyacrylic fiber to tie the frame.
  3. Rope or rope, which will be required in order to secure the swing to the ceiling or a tree branch.

Useful information! A popular option is a do-it-yourself outdoor seat-nest, which is installed on a metal or wooden support. The disadvantage of such a product is the inability to swing, because it looks more like a regular chair for sitting.

The sequence of actions when doing a swing nest with your own hands is as follows:

  1. Pre-cut rods are peeled and beaten off. This is done to make the material more flexible and pliable for weaving.
  2. A frame is being formed. To do this, take a round steel hula hoop, a rounded metal pipe or a durable PVC hose.
  3. The cross is being prepared. To do this, with a rope pre-moistened with glue, 4 or 6 rods are fastened together, which form the shape of a cross. The length of the vine should be equal to the diameter of the future seat.
  4. Cross stitching. The rods are passed either from above or from below the cross. Vine after vine is twisted around the cross until the desired diameter is formed, usually 80-100 cm. The last rod of the braid must be fixed with a cord and smeared with an adhesive mixture.

After the base is ready, they proceed to the implementation of the sides, the size of which is thought out in advance. Initially, you need to fix the frame rods on the base, the height of which will be the future height of the product. The interval between the frame rods should not be less than 2-3 cm. Then the branches of the vine are threaded between the rods. You need to weave the product from the bottom up, gradually rising and forming the inner cavity of the nest.

The rods should fit as tightly as possible to each other, and the end of the last rod with the help of an awl is hidden in the main weave. This must be done so that the edge does not stick out and cannot cause injury. At the final stage, cables are attached to the sides of the finished nest, which will then be used to hang the product.

Features of the implementation of a simple hanging children's swing chair

Children's swing chairs are considered the simplest and most quick option which you can easily do on your own in one day. Moreover, if you approach the manufacture carefully, it is quite acceptable to use it for adult swing lovers.

Before you start creating a swing, you need to check the availability of materials such as:

  • dense fabric (about 2 meters, but a little more is better);
  • meter wooden stick;
  • sewing machine;
  • drill;
  • rope;
  • kapron strong thread for sewing;
  • paint, if there is a desire to make the product brighter.

First, you need to fold the two-meter fabric in half and, stepping back 18 cm from the upper left corner, draw a diagonal line to the lower right corner to make a triangle. Then the resulting triangle is cut out and removed. At the same time, the main part is unfolded and the sides of the cut are stitched, capturing a centimeter along the edges. To get cavities that will serve to pull the attachment cord, it is necessary to bend 3 cm from two long sides and sew them either on a typewriter or by hand.

Further, two holes are made along the edges of a wooden bar or stick, the distances between which are at least 4-5 cm. In this case, the interval between holes from different ends should be about 70-75 cm. A cord is threaded into closely spaced holes, which is fixed with strong knots at the base of the beam. At the top, in the central part of the corner, another knot is knitted, for which the finished product will be hung on a hook.

Long hanging pieces of cord are passed through special holes in the fabric and drilled holes, and are also fixed at the base of the timber. On a hook, firmly fixed in advance to the ceiling with the help of anchors, first one and then the second oval steel carabiner is installed, where the swing loop is thrown. This will ensure high-quality and safe skiing.

The execution of the frame and base is an important stage of work that affects the safety of using the chair. Once these elements have been completed, you can proceed to decorative design which will make the product unique and unrepeatable.

It is necessary that the color of the textiles of the chair is in harmony with the environment. It is independent creation that makes it possible to install a product that is most suitable for the surrounding interior. Moreover, the design of the chair is quite simple, and the materials for manufacturing are not very expensive. All it takes is a little imagination and perseverance.

Summer residents mainly think about how to make a hanging chair with their own hands during the holidays. After all, it is not only convenient to use, but also decorates the entire summer cottage. When summer comes, all residents of megacities try to escape into nature. Someone can afford to go to the country for the whole season, while someone comes only for the weekend. Surely there is no person who would not want to sway in a hammock, listen to birdsong and doze off. A hanging chair is easier to buy, besides there are enough models, and everyone will find the best one for themselves. Someone will like a cocoon chair, while others will like a swing more. But the cost of such furniture is quite high, so many are thinking about whether to make a hammock chair with their own hands.

Why not? Indeed, for the manufacture of some models, you can use materials (chairs, hoops, ropes, wood bars, etc.) that lie in the shed and take up space. A more complex hanging chair may require materials that can be collected from nature or purchased. Some models will require you to be able to knit and weave, therefore, in the manufacture suspended structure the whole family will be involved. But first you need to figure out what chairs are.

Varieties of swing chairs

For the first time, the mass distribution and great popularity of the hanging chair began in the middle of the last century - it was the peak of fashion. At this time, the craftsmen invented and brought to life a variety of designs and various elements that made hanging chairs individual and different from each other. Here are some types:

  1. An armchair with a rigid frame made of wicker, plastic, metal or other material. The base is covered with fabric or braided with rods. The principle of construction is the same as that of a hammock.
  2. The swing chair is made in the same way, only with a soft frame. The seat can be of different sizes, and the mount can be single.
  3. Chair-cocoon, which has a rigid frame and wicker walls. Distinctive feature this chair - the inner space is half closed from the outside world.
  4. A drop chair is a model that is mainly used in a nursery. Represents small house in which you can play or sleep. There is enough space in it to lay out the toys.

Making a hanging hammock or a swing with your own hands is not very difficult, this business will require creativity and durable materials that will make using the chair safe.

What swing chairs can you make yourself

Swing chairs, which will be described below, can be made by yourself. The proposed options will not only be your favorite vacation spot, but also a unique highlight of your interior. suburban area. Self-manufacturing will make it possible to translate your imagination into reality.

Hanging swing

This chair can be made from a variety of materials. You will need:

  1. The fabric is 2 m long and 1-1.2 m wide. Choose a dense material, firstly, the denser it is, the more load it can withstand, and secondly, a dense fabric will wear out less.
  2. Centimeter, scissors, iron, sewing machine.
  3. Wooden block or plank.
  4. Steel carabiner, nylon thread rope.

The fabric must be folded in half in length and draw a line not along the fold line so that a trapezoid is obtained when turning. It turns out not a hammock, but a hammock chair.

The upper and lower edges of the trapezoid must be hemmed and ironed, the sides folded twice at an angle of 90º, this will be a tunnel for the rope. The seam needs to be stitched.

In a wooden plank, 2 holes must be drilled on each side at a distance of 2 cm from each other. If you want, the bar itself can be varnished or painted with paint.

The ends of the rope must be burned so as not to unravel, tie a knot on one side and pass through the holes, and then through one of the tunnels in the fabric. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that the loop that you get is both the size of the chair and the height at which you will hang the swing. Therefore, before cutting the rope and tying the second knot, you need to make sure that everything suits you. After you pass the rope on the other side of the bar, the loop for the carabiner can be attached to the holder. Next, the rope must be passed through the second tunnel in the fabric and a second knot must be tied.

braided variant

To do this, you need any material that has strength and flexibility, it can be willow, bird cherry, rattan rods, bast or grapevine. You will need about 400 rods with a diameter of 1-2 cm. The frame for the chair can be made of plastic or metal hoop. Weaving can be as follows:

  1. First, a cross is made of 3-4 of the thickest rods, they must be tied with a rope soaked in glue. From how long the rods you take, it will hang the seat of the future chair.
  2. The cross is wrapped around with a rod in such a way that the rod turns out to be from below, then from above, when the rod ends, take another one and continue like this until you get the necessary seat. As a rule, the size of the seat is about 80 cm. The last circle must be tied with a rope dipped in glue.
  3. To make the back, you need a hoop. It is necessary to tie 5 cords to it, and attach the second ends of the cords to the seat and coat with glue. Moreover, the front 2 cords should be shorter than the 3 back ones, since the back ones are the back. Next, 5 cords must be braided with any weaving of macrame. In order for the back to be more durable, it can be strengthened with a pair of thicker rods. Then, slings must be attached to the hoop in 4 places, connected with a carabiner and hung on a hook.

It is more difficult to make a cocoon chair, for this you need to be proficient in the technique of weaving macrame. You will need two hoops: one - with a diameter of 70 cm for the seat, the second - 110 cm for the back. You can use metal-plastic pipes with a cross section of 3.5 cm. First you need to determine which frame you want. The entire central part of the hoop, which is intended for sitting, must be braided with a dense and durable weave. Next, attach the second hoop to the seat and tie cords around its entire circumference, which are attached to the second end of the seat with the second end. In order for the chair to keep its shape, the backrest can be reinforced with several willow rods. Then, according to the resulting frame, you can weave any macrame patterns. Attach a carabiner to the top of the hoop, which will be fixed to the hook.

When making hanging chairs on your own, we must not forget that they will have to withstand heavy loads, so the choice of material must be approached very responsibly. Weaving ropes, rods, fabrics, fasteners - everything must be designed to support the weight of a person. If you are making a swing for a child, keep in mind that it is unlikely that he will sit quietly in them, most likely the child will jump, stand up on the seat, etc.

All knots must be made double and tightly tightened. The ends of the ropes must be burned so that they do not unravel. Carabiners, fasteners and the hook itself, on which the swing will hang, must be made of durable metal and withstand high loads. For chairs woven from wicker, you must definitely sew a couple of pillows, otherwise it will not be very comfortable to sit on them.

There are a lot of options for hanging chairs, and it is not at all necessary to use ready-made drawings and diagrams. You can let your imagination run wild and create a unique chair that no one else has. The main thing is to understand the principle of building a structure, and then you can fantasize as much as you like.

If the dacha is designed in a certain style, then in order for the hanging chair not to be discordant, it is necessary to harmoniously fit it into the overall interior, or at least focus on the color scheme. You can hang the chair both on a strong tree branch and on a metal L-shaped structure, which must be concreted for safety reasons.

A cocoon chair, or as it can also be called an egg chair, is ideal for those who want to “hide” from the world, be alone, be alone with themselves, with their thoughts and in silence, for example, read. The walls of this type of seat are woven, and the frame is quite rigid. Half of the interior space in such a chair is hidden, so, as we have already said, it is ideal for privacy. The rods of willow, bast, bird cherry, rakita have sufficient flexibility to make a cocoon chair.

Wicker chair with hard frame

A wicker chair on a rigid frame, which can be made of acrylic, wicker, metal, plastic or rattan. This type of chair looks like a rocking chair, only instead of legs it is fixed from above, to the ceiling or to the branches of a tree. The base of the furniture must be covered with a fabric with high strength or leather strips, wicker, rattan.

Choose the technique for any hanging chair yourself, depending on your skills and abilities. Giving a master class, professionals use the following techniques:

  • knitting, with which, connecting cords of various colors, however, necessarily having high strength, will make it possible to make an unusual designer chair;
  • macrame, where knots of ropes and ropes are intertwined, giving the hanging chair an airy lightness and aesthetic appearance;
  • patchwork, when an additional patchwork fabric is sewn on inner material in order to give strength to the seat;
  • tatting, the openwork of which looks incredibly gentle and attractive, and most importantly - the chair seems to be floating in the air.

As you can see, the options for both the chairs themselves and the technician for their manufacture are enough to choose from.

Making a hanging chair nest with your own hands

Making a hanging nest chair with your own hands is not a very difficult process, however, you still need to try a little, and in the end you will be satisfied with the result. At the same time, this type of design is considered the easiest to manufacture on your own. You can personally verify this. We know two options for structures of this design, where you need one hoop and two. To make a nest chair according to the first option, you will need the following materials:

  • a metal hoop made of a pipe with a section of 20/30 mm, the diameter varies (700-1100 mm) depending on what size you want to make yourself a hanging chair;
  • two pieces of fabric, for example, padding lining material, the size of which will be 1200 by 1200 mm or 1600 by 1600 mm;
  • another flap of this fabric, the width of which will be 200 mm, and the length 3500/4000 mm;
  • synthetic winterizer of the same length and width as the previous cut;
  • fabric for sewing pillowcases on pillows, as well as a synthetic winterizer for stuffing them;
  • border (800/1000 mm) to process cutouts in the case;
  • lightning, the length of which is 700/1100 mm;
  • a strong cord, whose thickness will be 6/8 mm, or, alternatively, a linen rope with a diameter of 10/12 mm, and a length of 10.5 m;
  • two rings and a carabiner for attaching the chair.

During work, you will have to use a sewing machine, scissors, thread and needles, a centimeter and a marker.

Now we will give step-by-step instructions on how to design a nest chair from a hoop with your own hands.

  1. Lay out the fabric on a table or other flat surface, and put a hoop in the top center.
  2. Using a tape measure or a tape measure and a marker, measure the area around the hoop with a radius 250mm larger than the hoop itself.
  3. Using scissors, cut out the circle marked with a marker. As a result, there should be two of them.
  4. Next, take one of the two prepared circles and cut it into two equal parts.
  5. Along the center line of the cut of the circle, it is necessary to pin a zipper with stealth or pins, and then sew it on a sewing machine. You need to retreat from the edge of the cut by 250 mm and fix the lock specifically from this point. The zipper will be stitched along the entire diameter of the circle.
  6. The next step is to sew the two parts of the cover, and then turn it out and lay it out on a flat surface again.
  7. For convenience in marking, we recommend putting a ready-made cover on the hoop. Next, the markup itself is made in accordance with the drawing you have chosen. Most often, the upper corners are marked at 45 degrees, and the lower ones at 30 degrees. Where places for cords will be cut, it is worth marking with a 15 cm marker.
  8. According to your marks, you need to make four cutouts for cords, ropes or ropes, which, in fact, will keep the chair in limbo.
  9. For the accuracy of the appearance of the cover, the holes that you cut out need to be sheathed with braid. The cover is ready, now you need to start processing the hoop itself.
  10. It is necessary to start with the fact that polymer glue should be applied to the hoop, and then wrapped with synthetic winterizer. The glue mixture will not allow the fabric to slide on the metal, which will give you the opportunity to calmly manually sheathe the hoop with stitches along the edge.
  11. Next, you need to wrap the synthetic winterizer with an outer fabric. Wrap the edges of the material inward, secure with pins and start trimming along the edges. After self made remove any pins or bobby pins.
  12. Now you can insert the processed hoop into the case. It remains to deal with the cords and ropes.
  13. Four parts must be cut from the cord, two of which will be 2200 mm long, and the other two - 2800 mm.
  14. Fold the cords in half and tie the ends into knots. Now you can thread them into the cut holes.
  15. To secure the cords under the hoop, you need to pass the ends tied into a knot through the loop that formed on the opposite side of them.
  16. For complete comfort you can sew pillowcases for pillows, fill them with padding polyester.
  17. And in the end, all you have to do is hang your hand-made hoop nest chair in the place you have chosen.

It is interesting! Instead of a hoop, you can use PVC pipes. Their advantage is light weight, high strength, warmth and softness. plastic material. You can buy a pipe in a finished round shape in a specialized store. You will only need to choose the desired diameter for the size of the chair and connect the ends of the pipe correctly. You can fasten the ends using an insert, which is made of dense plastic or wood. Its diameter should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the pipe so that the insert fits snugly without leaving an empty space in the pipe. Place the insert at the ends, then slide them and fix them with self-tapping screws, the length of which will be 15/20 mm. It is important not to make a mistake with the size of the screws, so that they do not go through the pipe.

Now we will tell you how to make a nest chair with your own hands according to the second method, for which you need two hoops. This type of hanging furniture is made using the macrame technique. You will need to use the following materials

  • metal hoops (2 ready-made hula hoops or self-made from PVC pipes), the cross section of which is 30/35 mm, and the diameter is 700 mm (for the seat frame), 1100 mm (for the back);
  • nylon cord to weave a chair, the thickness of which will be 4 mm, and the length will be 900 mm, or linen rope of the same length, but whose diameter will be 5/6 mm;
  • a nylon cord to hang a chair, the section of which is 6/7 mm, and the length is 12 m;
  • two bars of wood, the cross section of which is 20/35 mm. You can replace wooden bars with metal pipes, whose diameter will be 20/25 mm.

As in the previous version, we will give step-by-step instructions for completing the task.

  1. You need to start by wrapping two hoops with a cord. So that the cord does not slip on the metal, as in the previous version of the chair, the hoops must be lubricated with polymer glue, but so that the liquid does not come out over the cord. They wrapped 20 turns - they made a tightening, so the loops will not slip.
  2. At the next stage, it is necessary to braid one of the hoops, which is used as a seat. You choose the weaving technique yourself - macrame, patchwork and other options according to your skills and preferences.
  3. Now you need to do the connection of the two hoops: wrap the cord around the front of the potential chair.
  4. In order for the back to be rigid enough, two supports should be made, the material for which can be wood, metal or PVC pipe, strong cords. Fasten the backrest supports to the seat with weaving. You can install supports in the chair before the back is braided or after that.
  5. Next, you need to braid the back of the chair in those gaps where it remains between the hoops. The technique remains the same.
  6. You braided both hoops, connected them together, now you need to braid the strings for hanging with a cord. This will add to their reliability and strength. You need to fix them in four measured places along the upper hoop, which is the back. You can adjust the length of the straps depending on the hanging height of the chair.

Ready! Now you can make a nest chair with one or two hoops with your own hands.

Suspended wicker cocoon seat

Suspended wicker cocoon seat is a classic version of this type of furniture. It is made from pre-harvested and processed branches of bird cherry, willow, bast, rakita or rattan.

In order to make such a wicker cocoon chair, you will need to use the following materials:

  • long rods of rattan or willow, which will be 10/15 mm in diameter (400/450 pieces);
  • in order to create a frame, you may need metal pipes or a hoop; the base can be simply woven from the same rattan, willow or bird cherry;
  • glue and twine to tie the frame;
  • a knife, pruner, ruler, awl, which are useful for calculations, measurements and cuts;
  • kapron cord, the section of which is 4 mm, to weave the back of the chair;
  • ropes and cords in order to secure the wicker garden chair in the country house or in the yard of your private house.

The manufacture of a hanging cocoon chair proceeds in the following sequence of actions.

  1. It is necessary to cut the rods of rattan, willow, bird cherry, bast, peel them from the bark and set off, and then beat them off so that the vine is more flexible during weaving and amenable to the procedure.
  2. The next step is to create a frame. If you are going to use a hoop for this purpose, then it needs to be made flatter. But it is better, of course, to use a metal pipe, the shape of which is given quite simply, and the ends are connected by a special insert.
  3. Fasten the remaining frame parts to the pipe or hoop. The thickness of the rods in the section must be at least 6/8 mm, and the length must necessarily exceed the height of the chair by 2.5-4 cm with vertical fastening.
  4. Fix the rods vertically on the upper and middle parts of the frame so that after moving apart in the middle there is a gap of 2-2.5 cm between them in the middle of the back of the chair.
  5. The rods need to be bent in the shape and depth that you want to create for your chair, and then at the bottom again connect them to the middle. It will look like a basket.
  6. Bend the frame vine through the tube from the inside of the chair outward to secure the vine to the base. The end that is bent, intercept with a twine with a vine.
  7. The rods, which are the frame, weave crosswise with another vine, thinner. Start at the bottom and gradually work your way up. Bend the edge of the rods and twist around the base vine on the pipe. All rods should fit snugly against each other.
  8. According to this principle, the entire chair is woven, forming a kind of basket. The edge of the last twig must be bent and tucked inside the weave.

You have mastered the art of creating a hanging wicker cocoon chair.

Do-it-yourself swing chair from boards

Do-it-yourself swing chair made of boards is a pretty good and easy-to-make version of hanging furniture structures. You do not need to have specific carpentry skills. We will tell you how to process the boards and drill the holes necessary for the construction. There are several options for making a hanging chair from boards. We will share with you recommendations regarding two methods.

In order to build a chair according to the first method, you need to “arm yourself” with the following materials:

  • boards with these dimensions: their length should be 60-70 cm, width 12-15 cm, thickness 10-15 cm. You need 16 well-crafted boards;
  • nylon cord length 10 m;
  • water-based varnish in order to cover the chair with it.

Of the tools, you will need a hacksaw, or rather a jigsaw, sandpaper, a drill and wood drills with a diameter of 6, 8 and 10 mm.

Follow this step by step technology making a hanging chair.

  1. First of all, you need to prepare the boards: pick them up to the same specified size, pull out the nails, if any, saw off the parts with holes from under the nails, make the surface perfectly smooth by sanding it or using sandpaper.
  2. On the processed boards, you need to drill through holes along the top and bottom lines along the entire length. The distance between the holes should be 5 cm.
  3. Next comes the laying of the boards, starting from the bottom and applying the next bar from above tightly to each other. The nylon cord must be threaded through the holes diagonally, thus fastening the boards together, that is, it is necessary to connect the side faces of the two boards with a cord.
  4. According to the previous principle, you need to pass the cord from the back as well, so that you end up with crosses that connect the boards through the holes. We do not recommend pulling the cord tightly, since for the formation of a chair it is necessary that the boards are located quite freely. After you pass the cord through all the holes, it must be secured with knots from the back of the chair.
  5. The next step is to drill holes for hanging the chair. They are made on the top board from below and on the second board from above, departing from the edge 3-4 cm equally on both sides relative to the center of the bar.
  6. Here is the finished chair. For complete comfort, you can throw a blanket over him, take out a couple of pillows. Alternatively, a wooden frame can be constructed so that the cords are stretched at the desired distance, rather than joining in a pyramid at the top. It is done a little below the suspension point.

The second option for making a swing chair is considered more childish, so making it is even easier than following the first method.

Prepare the following materials for the construction of the structure:

  • boards, the length of which will be 50-70 cm, width 5-6 cm, and thickness 1.5-2 cm (14 pieces);
  • a nylon cord 10 m long and 1 cm in diameter;
  • self-tapping screws, the length of which is 1 cm, and the hats are wide.

If you take already processed lumber, then for work you only need a screwdriver.

Follow the step by step instructions:

  1. First of all, you need to lay out the boards parallel to each other, laying them upside down, leaving a distance of 1 cm between the bars.
  2. As soon as the boards are laid, you can braid the bars with a cord in the form of a snake, stepping back from the edges 4-5 cm, first in one direction, and then in the next, until all the boards are pierced with a cord. Wrap tightly so that in which case the boards do not fall out.
  3. On the bottom board of the chair from its wrong side, it is necessary to combine both edges of the cord and press it with a self-tapping screw. An identical operation is done with the cords and from the wrong side on the top board.
  4. Now, with self-tapping screws, you need to fix the cords with which you wrapped each board from the wrong side on both sides of the bars.
  5. And finally, you need to attach the slings and hang the finished chair in the place that you have chosen.

We sorted out the hanging swing chair from the boards.

Mounting methods

There are several ways to attach hanging seats: they can be attached to the branches of a tree in a garden in a country house or to the ceiling in an apartment or house. And if there shouldn’t be any special problems with fastening on the street, then you need to talk more about fixing a hanging chair to the ceiling. It must be incredibly strong to support weights above 120 kg.

Chair suspension method

Concrete ceiling without voids

In the concrete ceiling, you need to drill a hole for the anchor with a hook and fix the hanger. This option is only suitable for a concrete ceiling without voids inside.

Concrete ceiling with voids

If there are still voids in the ceiling, then you need to make a hole and fill them with a special mixture (high strength chemical anchor). After filling the voids, it is now necessary to mount a metal anchor with a hook, leave it for at least two days so that the mixture completely hardens and hardens, and only after that hang the finished chair.

Suspended ceiling

If the ceiling is closed, it is tension or plastic, then you need a slightly different option for fastening, where there will be a section of the desired length, and at the end there is a threaded sleeve. The bracket must be attached to the concrete ceiling and led out through the hole in the false ceiling, and then mount a hook or ring into it, on which the chair itself is suspended.

So, here you have learned how to make a hanging garden or indoor chair with your own hands, as well as how to attach it correctly. Choose any design option you like and equip yourself with a comfortable seat for relaxing.

Lovers of comfortable outdoor recreation often equip their suburban areas with gazebos, hammocks, swings. And relatively recently, they began to use hanging chairs, in which it is convenient to relax reclining. They can be placed both outdoors and indoors. They provide relaxation and peace for the seated, and in big house will certainly become an interior decoration. Making a hanging chair with your own hands is not at all difficult. For this, it is often enough to use improvised materials and simple tools.

There are several types of hanging chairs. By design, they are divided into frame and frameless. The frame serves as the basis for the materials with which the furniture will be woven. The frameless version is a piece of fabric folded in half, fixed at the ends to a base stand or a hook on the ceiling.

Depending on the shape and design, such models can have different purposes:

  • swing chairs - for entertainment;
  • chair-nest - for comfortable rest;
  • a cocoon chair that creates an atmosphere of solitude in nature.

Hanging chairs in the interior of a balcony or terrace always look original. Products in the form of a cocoon or a drop suspended on a steel rack will be appropriate on a lawn in the shade of a sprawling tree. Solid dense sidewalls will cover the vacationer from wind and drafts. And you can make a hanging chair for a children's room together with your child. It is convenient to play, relax, read books in it, and the child will definitely be proud that he also took part in the process.

An interesting option is a do-it-yourself wicker chair suspended from a thick horizontal branch. big tree in the garden or straight up to the ceiling in the living room. This design does not require a stand. This is convenient because the furniture will not interfere when mowing grass or while cleaning the room.

Models and designs differ. Furniture can be upholstered or braided with different materials:

  • fabric;
  • artificial or natural rattan;
  • colored plastic cord.

The choice of chair type and material depends on the purpose of the hanging furniture and the design of the room.

Size selection and drawing

Before you start making a chair, you need to determine what size it will be. In a large one, if you surround yourself with a lot of pillows, of course, it will be more convenient, but a small one can sometimes seem more comfortable. In addition, if you have to use a chair indoors, then its dimensions will depend on the area of the room. A large object in a small room will look bulky and ridiculous, no feeling of comfort will come of it.

A child hanging chair can have seat dimensions from 50 to 90 cm, and an adult one from 80 to 120 cm. The height of the finished structure will depend on the installation method. In order for hand-made hanging chairs to be safe, you need to calculate them with a margin bearing capacity. A child must withstand the weight of a seated person of about 90-100 kg, and an adult - 130-150 kg.

Having decided on the size and purpose, you can draw up a small drawing in which the model will be shown to scale. This makes it easier to calculate the dimensions of the parts used in the assembly. All elements of the frame can be drawn separately on paper, and then transferred to blanks, increasing the size.

When drawing up a drawing, you can take as a basis any ready-made version or draw your own. It is imperative to draw out the environment in which the chair will subsequently be installed or suspended, since its size must be determined, including taking into account the dimensions of the rest of the furniture. But the material for arranging the seat will have to be customized in the process of work, when the frame is already ready. It is unlikely that it will be possible to calculate the amount of fabric or rattan using the drawings.

Frame and base materials

For the frame, you can use steel, copper or plastic pipes, rods, tree branches. Metal pipes, if you need to bend them into a circle, will have to be rolled on special machines, so it’s better to use an old gymnastic hoop of a suitable diameter instead. The rods can be bent by first soaking them in water. Frame parts can also be made of PVC pipes or metal-plastic pipes with a diameter of at least 32 mm.

For the base, round or profiled pipes can be used. In order for the furniture to withstand the weight of the person sitting, the size of the pipe section must be at least 30 mm with a wall thickness of 3-4 mm. The base must be made very stable to prevent the chair from tipping over.

In the manufacture frameless chair from a piece of matter, you can put a circle of plywood inside to give the seat a comfortable shape. Of course, it must be sheathed with a cloth and pillows should be placed on top.

From the many types of materials, you need to choose the most appropriate for the conditions of use of furniture. Fabric chairs, for example, are not advisable to use outdoors, since most of these materials fade in the sun. Natural rattan is afraid of moisture, so it is not recommended to leave such furniture in the rain. But indoors it is better to use environmentally friendly natural materials.

Artificial rattan and plastic will tolerate moisture, sun and temperature changes well.

To braid the frame, you can use the macrame technique. This is the name of the type of weaving for which textile cords, ribbons, ropes are used.

Stages of work taking into account the model

To decide how to make a hanging chair at home, you can first consider the manufacturing technologies of several options and choose the most suitable one for implementing your own idea.

For the manufacture will need the following materials:

  • pipes or tree rods for a wireframe model;
  • the material with which the frame will subsequently be covered;
  • strong synthetic threads;
  • rope with a diameter of 6-8 mm;
  • batting, synthetic winterizer or thin foam rubber.

The composition of materials may vary depending on the selected model.

On hoops

Using a gymnastic hoop, you can quickly make a frame model hanging on a hook mounted in the ceiling of a terrace, gazebo or children's room. It is not very difficult to make it if you follow the instructions:

  1. You need to start work with the manufacture of parts for the seat. For the frame, you can use a steel gymnastic hoop with a diameter of 100-120 cm. To make your stay in the chair comfortable later, the hoop can be sheathed with padding polyester.
  2. To fill the space inside the hoop, which will be the seat, you can use two fabric circles. The diameter of the circles should be 50 cm larger than the diameter of the hoop. This is necessary so that the resulting seat sags on the frame. The seat fabric must be strong enough to support the weight of the occupant.
  3. Two fabric circles with sewing machine are sewn together so that a cover is formed that can be put on a hoop. The seam must be inside cover.
  4. Next, on the sewn product, it is necessary to make semicircular cutouts 5 cm in size at two opposite ends and overcast them on sewing machine. Insert pieces of rope into these cutouts, hooking them to the hoop and securing with knots. The length of the segments must be adjusted so that the seat is at the desired inclination.
  5. At the top, the ends of all four pieces of rope are connected and tied to a hook.

When making a seat from fabric, first in one of the circles along a line passing through the center, you need to make a slot, the length of which is equal to the diameter of the circle. It is necessary to sew a zipper of the appropriate length into it so that the cover can be removed and washed if necessary.

If you use two hoops, you can make a three-dimensional frame, which later needs to be braided with rattan or a plastic cord. One of the hoops with a diameter of 80 cm should become the bottom of the seat, and the second - with a diameter of 120 cm, forms the back. The procedure for making a chair is as follows:

  1. A smaller hoop is pre-laid on a horizontal surface.
  2. On top of it, you need to lay a large hoop and, combining both on a small (35-40 cm) section of the circumference, firmly tie them, braiding them with a cord or rattan.
  3. Bending up the edge of the large hoop that was not fixed, you need to fix it with two racks, which can be used as wooden planks of the desired length. To prevent them from jumping off, you can make small cuts in the end part to install the planks on the hoop. Subsequently, the racks must be braided.
  4. The circle formed by the lower hoop is covered with cord or rattan. The material should be intertwined with each other, forming a grid with a step of 2-3 cm.
  5. The upper hoop, which will be the back, is braided in the same way. In this case, weaving is performed from top to bottom and ends at the bottom hoop. The remaining pieces of cord can imitate the fringe for the resulting seat.
  6. Having tied four pieces of rope of the required length to the lower hoop, you need to connect their upper ends and hang the chair on a support or hook installed in the ceiling beam.

To make such an armchair, you will need several hours of free time, and a comfortable corner for relaxation will appear in the interior.

A simple children's hanging chair can even be made from a large bath towel, if you tie pieces of rope with a diameter of 6-8 mm to each end. Their length is chosen experimentally. The ropes tied to the two corners that form the back should be a little shorter. If you collect the ends of four rope segments at the top and tie them to a support, you get a small impromptu seat that can be built anywhere: in the forest at a picnic, in the park while walking, if the child is tired and wants to sit.

If you need to figure out how to make a chair, simple and closed on all sides, help step-by-step instruction cocoon with their own hands. Such a chair from a piece of fabric 3 m long and 1 m wide can be made very quickly. For this you need:

  1. Fold the fabric in half and sew one side 1.5 meters long. The resulting product must be turned out so that the seam is inside a kind of "bag".
  2. The top of the fabric seat is assembled, tied with a rope with a diameter of 6-8 mm. The result will be a kind of bag tied at the top, but not sewn along one of the sides.
  3. After hanging the seat inside the "bag", you can put several pillows. It will turn out a cozy cocoon in which the child can even hide.

Any of the options for homemade hanging chairs will require some amount of time, effort to manufacture. But the result obtained will absolutely not leave indifferent households and guests.

The hanging chair has always been in demand among wealthy families.

Today, it is not necessary to be a rich owner of a cottage in order to have a comfortable hanging chair or sofa on your site that will fit landscape design, and most importantly, bring a lot of pleasure to the owner.

You can make your own hanging chair. There is nothing particularly difficult in this, of course you will need male help, but I hope you will not have problems with this.

What can you make a hanging chair with your own hands

You can make your own hanging chair:

  • from a wicker structure;
  • from the vine;
  • rattan hanging chair.

These natural materials not only beautiful and environmentally friendly, but also very reliable.

It is also important that rattan furniture

and the vines weigh very little, which contributes to a simpler installation of the chair to the suspended structure, simplifies your rolling in the chair, and gives confidence in reliability.

If you are planning to make your own hanging chair from wicker or buy it from a store, you should pay special attention to the shape, which should preferably be semi-circular, so that you can maintain balance in the chair.

Balance can be achieved in other ways, but you need to have a certain experience, otherwise, in the absence of balance, you will not be able to relax while sitting in a chair.

Also, a do-it-yourself hanging chair can be made from an old office chair, if you have the opportunity to create a rounded one for it. metal carcass, which will be suspended at its highest point. The chair is attached to this frame.

A hanging hammock chair is a very original and easy-to-make option. We will talk about it below in more detail.

How to make a hanging hammock chair with your own hands

All you need for a DIY hanging chair is imagination, a little patience, mastery of the macrame technique and a few simple supplies:

  • metal hoops in the amount of 2 pcs. They must have different diameter, the size of which is not fundamental (a larger hoop is taken for the back);
  • very strong cord (polyamide, for example) for weaving. It doesn’t matter what color, the main thing is that you have enough of it, so we recommend buying about 900 meters at once;
  • slings (about 12 meters);
  • two wooden bars;
  • two cords that will be needed to connect the metal rings of the hanging chair;
  • scissors;
  • roulette.

You can also stock up on gloves. How to make a hanging chair if you don't have rings? Contact a workshop where there is equipment for creating such metal structures.

The problem is that with your own hands you are unlikely to be able to bend the pipe evenly, and you will have to connect the two ends.

The good thing about polyamide cord is that the knots created will not come undone, as happens with many other materials for weaving baskets, vases, and more.

First you need to wrap the hoop with a cord, and then proceed to create the inner mesh.

This is a typical checkerboard, which is fixed with flat knots at each point of "contact". Thus, the seat for the future hanging chair is almost ready.

The places where the knots are created, or rather their appearance, will depend on whether the chair has upholstery.

If the rocking chair is being restored, and the color of the base materials varies, then, of course, the upholstery is needed for aesthetic purposes.

If the appearance of the wicker structure of the hanging chair is quite satisfactory, for decoration, at each extreme point at the point where the metal hoop is reached, we create a beautiful knot, from which we leave a certain length of the rope.

After the bottom of the chair is ready, you need to weave the back, but before that, attach a second metal circle of a larger diameter to the prepared support rods.

You can weave using any patterns, starting from any macrame technique, but in any case, it is important to wrap all the metal parts of the frame with a cord.

It is necessary to fix the support bars using screws - this will ensure maximum reliability of your do-it-yourself hanging chair.

If this option does not suit you, it presses somewhere, and you would like something softer, you can equip the chair with pillows.

In this case, if the upholstered part of the chair starts to deteriorate, you will not need to reupholster the furniture - it will be enough just to sew new pillows.

By the way, the option with pillows is very interesting. They can have different decorations, bows, bead patches, have different colors. You can also make real upholstery for a hanging chair, but in this case you will have to purchase a special fabric, preferably high-quality leatherette, if the chair is suspended in the open. Yes, and cleaning furniture will not be a difficult process.

An easier option for creating a wicker chair with your own hands is to buy a raincoat fabric, according to which a pattern will be made.

The inner part can be glued with foam rubber, and the raincoat fabric can be attached to the top of the finished chair.

Cheap, simple and cheerful - even if it gets wet, the fabric will not deteriorate, and it will not be difficult to choose a shape for a chair, which cannot be said about a full-fledged upholstery, which will require certain professional skills.

In addition, a hanging chair “packed” in raincoat fabric will be easy to disassemble if furniture repair is required, because it is not necessary to sew the fabric, you can simply pull it off on one side with a rope, which, if necessary, will be easily untied.
