Since December, gardeners have been choosing tomato varieties, some have been using old proven varieties, while others have been looking for new tomato varieties. We will tell you about new varieties of tomatoes, and also give brief description and analysis of varieties already known to you. We offer you the best tomato seeds.

New varieties of tomato seeds

Large-fruited low-growing tomatoes suitable for low greenhouses. "Paradise" - a variety 1.2 m high, fruitful (in each brush - 6-8 large, up to 200 g, red fruits).

"Raja" - undersized, early, dark red, large-fruited (up to 300 g). "Hermitage" is a variety suitable for the North-West, early, plentiful, with aligned round red fruits of about 100 g in weight.

"Native" - an early standard variety with potato leaves, resistant to cold weather, with round, leveled fruits of 100-180 g of raspberry color, allows the formation of 3-4 stems.

Of last year's most interesting tomatoes: "Igranda" - an early abundant variety with fleshy red rounded fruits weighing 150 g (resistant to sudden changes in temperature); "Pavlovskaya rose" - an early variety with dense, pink, ripe fruits suitable for canning (resistant to bad weather); "Bif" is a mid-season variety with red, fleshy, dense round-shaped fruits (about 200 g).

Hybrid "Resource" has red fruits weighing up to 150 g, bears fruit for a long time. The hybrids "Sister", "Delight" and "Elton Jones" have the same properties, but the latter has fruits that look like small oranges. Hybrid "Torbay" refers to salad tomatoes, its pink fruits reach a weight of more than 200 g.

The large-fruited hybrid "Russian Troika" with a height of only 50-60 cm produces fruits weighing about 200 g, and the "Major" hybrid is generally an ornament to the garden, since a low bush will give birth to fruits weighing up to 300 g! The same large fruits are produced by the hybrids "Simon", "Darling", "Cuplet", "Ace" and the varieties "Chosen" and "Ryabchik".

In the northern collection, new varieties have appeared that are resistant to adverse weather conditions - "Chanterelle" with orange fruits about 120 g in weight and "Baltic" with fleshy sweet, red fruits about 150 g.

Small-fruited low-growing tomatoes suitable for low greenhouses. "Skorokhod" is a plentiful, unpretentious variety, only 50 cm high (and therefore suitable for small greenhouses), bears abundantly with medium-sized red fruits.

Biotekhnika Firm offers this season the varieties "Lollipop" (unpretentious, with small red fruits up to 40 g), "Gem Emerald" (tall, multiple, with small (30-40 g) green plum-like fruits), "Unpretentious -105 "(also for salad purposes, determinant, fruits 50-80 g each) and" Raisins "(early undersized, with small dense pink fruits).

The best varieties of tomatoes for open ground.

Tomatoes of the Siberian series for open ground (low - up to 80 cm, but large-fruited): Siberian Trump, Uvalen, Lyuban. In addition to them, new, very early ripening tomatoes “Buyan”, “Leader of the Redskins”, “Flash”, “Pink Souvenir”, “Blush of Petersburg”, “Sunny Bunny”, “Nimble” are suitable for open ground.

Ultra-early tomatoes. Of greatest interest are ultra-early varieties and hybrids, because even in cold and short summers they can be grown without seedlings. But for this, it is necessary to sow in the very first days of May under good shelter, immediately in place, always on insulated soil (for example, on a 10-12-cm layer of fluff and feathers from an old pillow under the soil to a depth of 15-20 cm). Typically, these tomatoes are just recommended for open ground. As a rule, their fruits do not exceed 100-150 g, and the height of the plants is about 50 cm. These tomatoes usually do not stepchild. Of the varieties (you can take your own seeds), these are Flash, Buyan, Pink Souvenir, Sunny Bunny and Duckling. Of the hybrids (you can’t use your own seeds, because they are often underdeveloped and do not pass on their properties to offspring, and therefore no one knows what will grow from such seeds) you can call tomatoes “Leader of the Redskins”, “Katya”, “Ninulya”, “Rumyanets Petersburg”, “Nimble”, “Solerosso”, which ripen in the open ground even near St. Petersburg. There are also large-fruited super-early hybrids "Bringing good luck" and "Gayas Bekseev", which give fruits weighing about 200 g or more. Of course, all these tomatoes grow well in greenhouses.

Note. In the North-West, it is better not to plant tomatoes in open ground. They should be kept under cover (preferably not under a film, but under double lutrasil or spunbond). In practice, they never fully ripen, and very often a beautiful green fruit, when cut inside, turns out to be affected by phytophthora.

Small-fruited tall tomatoes for high greenhouses. Of the early ripe varieties "Bon Appetita" has small red fruits weighing about 100 g, but there are up to 100 pieces, and most importantly, the fruits are tied in any weather. "Red Caramel" and "Yellow Caramel" are plum-shaped, small-fruited (only about 40 g), but very plentiful, sweet and decorative hybrids of a long fruiting period.

Large-fruited tall tomatoes for high greenhouses. Hybrid "Semko" - disease-resistant, early ripening, with fleshy sweet red fruits of 200-400 g each, as well as "Semko 18", F1 hybrids ("Important Person" - large red, "Juggler" - red). The company "Sedek" put on sale varieties of the Siberian series "Velmozha" (pink large-fruited), "Raspberry Meat" (large), as well as its own varieties "Pink Tsar" (tall, salad-going, with fruits up to 300 g of raspberry color) , "Raspberry delicacy" (tall, with dense dark pink fruits up to 300 g).

Poisk has released Sherry Lady (Dutch early hybrid with even, dense, bright red round fruits 200 g), Ikarus (salad variety, tall, with large red fruits 300 g), Kozyr (with red fruits up to 200 g), "Rose-Marin" (tall variety with large pink fruits 550 g).

"Semko-Junior" pleased us with the hybrids "Diorange" (stress-resistant, early, up to 180 g) and "Malika", as well as the "Townsville" variety - an early ripening Dutch hybrid up to 150 cm tall, with round fleshy red fruits 150-180 G.

Firm "Gavrish": "Poznan" (early ripening variety, tall, racemose, orange), "Dobrun" (high variety, storable, with fruits up to 150 g).

Of last year's novelties, we can recommend the Tyutchev tomato (red fruits weighing 400-500 g). From mid-ripening tomatoes, a group of hybrids "Faith, Hope, Love" can be distinguished with red fruits weighing about 230 g; they have a long shelf life. Two hybrids - "Zhenaros" and "Belle" - give red fruits weighing more than 300 g. They are interesting in that they can set fruits when high temperatures(as you know, tomato pollen is usually sterilized at temperatures above 35-40 ° C, and in summer in greenhouses without forced ventilation, the temperature, as a rule, reaches 40-42 ° C).

The Caliber hybrid has red fruits weighing about 200 g for salad purposes, the Flint hybrid is characterized by abundant fruiting, and the Poet hybrid is resistant to temperature fluctuations and sets fruits in any weather (the pulp is fleshy, tasty, fruits can reach a weight of 600-650 G). The Sancho Panza hybrid has fleshy, slightly flattened, tasty fruits. yellow color and long fruiting period.

Hybrid "Chance" gives pink fleshy fruits weighing about 300 g, bears fruit for a long time and abundantly. Excellent varieties have the same characteristics (you can take seeds from your own fruits) from the Siberian Seeds series. These are "Stellate Sturgeon" with salmon-pink fruits in the form of a fungus, "Golden Domes" with yellow domed fruits, "Bear's Paw" with red fleshy fruits, "Sugar Buffalo", "Three Fat Men" and many others of this same series. In Siberia, their fruits reach 800-1200 g, in the North-West - only 350-450 g. They are distinguished by good taste, long and abundant fruiting.

For lovers of large tomatoes, you can still recommend varieties"Raspberry Surprise" with fruits up to 700 g, "King Giant" and "Eternal Call" with red fruits weighing up to 1000 g, as well as "Pink Honey", whose pink fruits in Siberia can reach 1500 g!

Tomatoes are one of the most popular crops in our gardens. However, if in some cases they are successful, in others they are frankly disappointing. And the point here is not only in the timely observance of the correct agricultural practices, but also in the selection of varieties. It is a well-chosen tomato variety that can provide 50% of the success of the crop, and only then high-quality watering, and timely top dressing, and pinching, and other tricks. Therefore, when buying tomato seeds, you should not rely on intuition, and even more so on a colorful picture, but be sure to rely on the characteristics of what is behind the bright photo and name.

Let's figure out how to choose tomato seeds for your beds.

1. We focus on the nature of the development of the aerial part of the tomato

The first thing to understand when choosing a variety is that all tomatoes differ in the nature of the development of the aerial part. On this basis, they are divided into indeterminate and determinant varieties.

Indeterminate varieties and hybrids of tomatoes differ in unlimited growth and can reach a height of up to 6 m. In the middle lane and to the south they are grown in greenhouses, forming into one stem. In the south, they show themselves well in open ground. They are not used in the north, as they do not have time to ripen either in open ground or in greenhouses.

  • Inflorescences in such tomatoes are formed every three leaves.
  • Up to 9 brushes can form on plants, the first of which appears above the 8-12th leaf, then after every 2nd.
  • These are remontant tomato varieties. They repeatedly bloom and bear fruit, stopping in growth only when autumn temperatures drop.
  • In large-fruited tomato indeterminants, up to 4 fruits are formed in one brush, in small-fruited ones, cherry tomatoes, up to 30.
  • The fruiting period of this group begins 110-120 days after emergence.
  • Due to their high growth, indeterminate tomatoes are less susceptible to phytophthora damage.

Determinant varieties of tomato- differ in limited growth (50-120 cm), one-time flowering, the ability to form inflorescences on lateral branches. Determinant varieties of tomato are used mainly for open ground (in the south and in the middle lane), in the north for greenhouses. Need a simple garter.

  • Determinate tomato varieties lay about 5 brushes on one plant, forming them through 1-2 leaves.
  • The first inflorescence is formed over 5-7 leaves.
  • Determinate varieties of tomato have short internodes.
  • To obtain a full-fledged harvest, pinching is required.
  • Determinate tomato varieties begin fruiting 80-100 days after emergence.
  • Harvest amicably - 50% of the fruits ripen during the first 20 days of the fruiting period.
  • They themselves stop growing after the formation of the last brush.

In the determinant group, superdeterminant and semi-determinant varieties are distinguished.

Super determinant tomatoes form a low (up to 80 cm) highly branched bush with 2-3 brushes, formed after 1-2 leaves already above 5-6 leaves. These are early ripening varieties of tomato, giving the harvest together, not needing pinching. For 20 days of the fruiting period, about 80% of all fruits ripen on them.

semi-determinate tomatoes have weak determinism and can grow up to 1.5 m tall, forming up to 6-8 inflorescences, the first of which is formed after 9-10 leaves, and the next - after 2-3 leaves. They mature in more late dates. Need a garter. Formed in 2 shoots.

Standard tomatoes - the shortest. They do not need a garter, they do not require pinching. Very early, characterized by a friendly return of the crop. They have not only a compact bush, but also a small root system, due to which they can be grown in a denser planting. Some varieties of tomato in this group are excellent for container culture. Most have increased resistance to stress. The first brush on such tomatoes is formed over 4-5 leaves, the next - after 1-2 leaves.

2. Choose the size of the fruit of the tomato

An equally important feature that determines the choice of tomato variety is the size of the fruit. And here, too, not everything is so simple.

It cannot be said that the size of the fruits of this crop is directly related to the height of the plants, but it has been noticed that low (determinant) varieties of tomato produce tomatoes of medium and small sizes, but indeterminate ones can be very large. However, cherry tomatoes also belong to the last group - having very small sizes of tomatoes.

Thus, setting out to grow half-kilogram beauties, you need to understand that you will have to deal with indeterminate tomato varieties, which are more difficult to care for than undersized ones, give a later and more extended harvest, and in smaller quantities than varieties with smaller fruits. But if tomatoes are planted to obtain market products, or in order to remove a large number of fruits in a short period of time (for seaming) - here the best choice becomes a determinant group.

3. We take into account the regionalization of the tomato

The next component of a “successful” choice is the correspondence of the varietal characteristics of a particular tomato to the climatic region.

What is a zoned variety? This is a variety selected for cultivation in this area on the basis of the best indicators of yield, ripening time, keeping quality, transportability, taste, resistance to quarantine diseases and pests ... In a word, it is capable of producing the highest yield, with the least investment, in these climatic conditions.

4. Pay attention to the timing of ripening tomatoes

The ripening period of tomatoes is the period from germination to harvesting the main crop. Here all varieties are divided into three main groups: early, mid-ripening and late-ripening.

In the conditions of a short summer, it makes no sense to plant late-ripening tomato varieties, even if they have excellent taste characteristics. But in the south, it is justified to select a number of varieties that differ in ripening time, both in order to extend the harvest and in order to diversify the table.

In addition, in areas with a high risk of damage to tomatoes by phytophthora, it is better to plant early varieties that have time to give the bulk of the fruit before the onset of conditions favorable for the disease.

5. We study the characteristics of fruits

The characteristics of the tomato fruits themselves should also become a mandatory criterion for choosing a variety. Size, color, shape, fleshiness, sugar content, keeping quality, transportability…

If the products are intended for the market, the best choice would be red varieties of tomatoes with evenly shaped fruits, medium weight, high transportability and keeping quality, and a friendly yield of the crop. If for salads - the so-called salad varieties of tomatoes, which are distinguished by large fleshy fruits with a bright rich taste. These are more often pink, yellow or orange tomatoes. There are also varieties for seaming, for freezing, for drying, for stuffing ... In a word, it is possible and expedient to choose for yourself exactly what you need.

6. Variety or hybrid?

This issue is often particularly difficult when choosing tomato seeds. However, it also needs to be guided.

What is a grade? In fact, it is a set of characteristics that distinguish a group of plants from other plants of the same species. What is a hybrid? This is an organism obtained by crossing genetically different forms. On a bag of seeds, it is indicated by the F1 sign, located after the name.

In addition, a variety is a constant set of characteristics, both advantageous and negative, transmitted through seed material to the next generation of plants. But a hybrid is a combination of improved characteristics, but, unfortunately, not fixed in seeds. Therefore, with varietal plants seeds are harvested, but not from hybrid ones.

Thus, if tomato seeds are selected for greenhouses, then the choice of hybrids should be an unequivocal decision. They are distinguished by more friendly shoots, early maturity, even yield yield, product uniformity, high adaptive ability to adverse factors, increased resistance to diseases and pests.

If we are talking about open ground, both varieties and hybrids are suitable here. However, the latter, due to the unity of the best features of two parental lines at once, are always more advantageous.

And one more thing ... Hybrid and GMOs are not synonymous words. Not every product of selection is genetically modified. Therefore, do not be afraid of the prefix "F1" and choose what really gives a good harvest.

7. How many tomato varieties to buy?

Not less than challenging task when choosing tomato seeds for beginner gardeners, the question is: How much?

In fact, everything is quite simple. If the culture is not familiar to you, and you cannot call yourself an experienced gardener, buy 1-2 varieties that are most widespread among your friends, those varieties that are well-known, and 1-2 of those that you like for them. tests. And it is not necessary to plant all the tomato seeds from a bag, 3-4 bushes are enough to understand what you have purchased and provide it with proper care.

Conclusion:

When choosing tomato seeds, it is necessary to remember that varieties differ not only in taste, but also in early maturity, yield, keeping quality, transportability, resistance to diseases and pests, the nature of growth and development. They may have recommendations for growing in this particular climatic zone, forming into one or two stems, and differ in the complexity of the garter.

Thus, before making a final decision on the purchase of a particular variety or hybrid, you must carefully read its characteristics, ask for reviews, and calculate the possibilities. And, if the choice is deliberate, then the harvest is likely to please!

You can find tables of characteristics of tomato varieties by cultivation method, ripening time, type of growth, type of use and others in a separate material: ""

The abundance of offers from seed sellers poses a difficult task for gardeners, which are the most the best varieties prepare tomatoes for 2020 for seedlings. It is important to clearly define where and when the seedlings will be planted, because there are species exclusively for open soil, and there are tomatoes, the fertility of which is determined by the greenhouse content.

Varieties for greenhouses

Seeds should be selected according to the criteria:

  • productivity and fertility;
  • resistance to frost and damage by viruses and bacteria;
  • taste;
  • appointments;
  • ripening speed;
  • conditions of detention;
  • climate and soil type.

Choosing the best tomatoes for a greenhouse is not easy, and here each gardener relies on his own knowledge and experience, as well as on the recommendations of well-known collectors, for example, Valentina Redko and Vladimir Popenko, when buying seeds. Many prefer indents, which are characterized by constant growth and the presence of fruits until cold weather. Often, these are early maturing hybrids that are not susceptible to pests that grow both under film and in greenhouses made of glass and plastic.

Most indents are tall, which is convenient in a small area. They ripen early, do not take up much space, despite the large number of inflorescences, bear fruit all season.

Among the successful varieties gardeners distinguish:

  • Evpator F1 - a rounded tomato of rich red color, weighing up to 160 g, with a pleasant taste;
  • Sprinter F1 - an early hybrid with round flat fruits, weighing about 200 g;
  • Alexia F1 - a large variant with fruits up to 200 g, grown all year round;
  • Kronos F1 - a hybrid for film greenhouses, dense red tomatoes, weighing up to 180 g;
  • Cosmonaut Volkov - an unpretentious variety with bushes up to 2 m and sweetish fruits, weighing 200 - 600 g, bright red-orange color with a fragrant aroma;
  • Orange strawberries - early ripe tomatoes, which are chosen for a short cool summer, are distinguished by a compact bush size and juicy yellow fruits, weighing up to 500 g;
  • Full-full - a fruitful species with rounded fruits of low weight, grows in the middle lane;
  • De-barao - a series of "cream of different colors - red, yellow, pink, black or striped, weighing up to 100 g;
  • Airleaf - a tall mid-season variety from the collection of Redko Valentina with elongated pink sweet tomatoes, very productive and granular;
  • Sweet Cherry F1 is a beautiful decorative tomato, a tall bush up to 4 m, each brush contains about 20 red fruits with a wonderful taste.

When there is no time for constant care and watering, which leads to crop loss, low-growing tomatoes for greenhouses help out, which are unpretentious in maintenance and often do not require pinching. New for this season:

  • Raja - an early variety with large burgundy fruits, weighing up to 300 g;
  • Yellow delicacy - tomatoes that can be grown in an unheated greenhouse have fairly large, fleshy fruits and are good for salads;
  • Paradise - high-yielding tomatoes, when up to 8 fruits ripen in one brush, weighing up to 200 g;
  • Hermitage is an ideal choice for a cold summer, characterized by endurance to temperature extremes, fruits of rich taste and small size;
  • The Russian troika is an excellent hybrid for beginner summer residents, with large fleshy tomatoes up to 200 g.

Growing tomatoes with large fruits requires a careful approach, especially to the formation of a bush. They differ in later ripening, but give a good harvest and bear fruit until autumn cold. The so-called "beef tomatoes" are not used in canning, their sugary pulp and extraordinary taste fit perfectly into many salads and independent dishes. The most preferred and proven varieties include:

  • The king of giants - tomatoes with large red fruits, the size of which reaches 1 kg;
  • Bull's heart - pink tomatoes of a characteristic shape, weighing up to 900 g on the lower inflorescences and up to 400 g on the upper brush;

  • Belmonte Kuor - a popular tomato in Valentina Redko's store with red fleshy fruits, weighing up to 600 g;
  • Scorpio - raspberry or pink tomatoes, weighing up to 800 g;
  • Pink honey - unique tomatoes that grow on low bushes up to 70 cm and at the same time give fruits up to 1.5 kg in size;
  • Accordion pink from the catalog of rare collection tomatoes Popenko V.D. - the original corrugated look, originally from Mexico, with sweet flat fruits that housewives like to add to salads or use in stuffing.

No less popular among seeds for greenhouses this year are cherry tomatoes, which, with a very small mass of 25 g, produce multi-colored clusters with 16 - 20 fruits. In addition to greenhouses, cherry tomatoes are wonderfully grown in hanging pots on the balcony or directly in flowerpots. New proposals for greenhouses are represented by the following types:

  • Bonsai;
  • Minibel;
  • Mariska;
  • Cherry red and Cherry yellow;
  • Golden bunch and Rowan beads from Valery Popenko.

Varieties for open ground

As a rule, tomato seeds for open ground are in great demand in the southern and middle lanes, where summers are hot and long, but there are collections of tomatoes that grow well in cold climates. Open soil requires an extremely individual approach when it is necessary to properly prepare seedlings and cultivate them competently. Early tomatoes with high yields are best suited for open ground:

  • Red cheeks from Valentina Redko - delicious tomatoes that bear fruit abundantly under any weather conditions, with smooth, dense fruits, weighing up to 200 g;
  • Dinar is an early ripening variety with small fruits of low weight that dot the entire bush;
  • Sub-Arctic - exclusive tomatoes from Popenko, are considered champions in fruit ripening, have a small weight of up to 50 g and a high content of vitamins;
  • Junior F1 - juicy ribbed hybrid with red fruits, weighing up to 100 g;
  • Amber - frost-resistant early tomato with small yellow fruits;
  • Red fang from the Redko catalog - an excellent early variety for canning and beautiful serving, long red fruits with a dense skin and weighing up to 40 g;
  • Amber heart - a new hybrid of yellow color, heart-shaped fruits contain a lot of carotene, average weight is about 150 g;
  • Medoc is an undemanding domestic species with original red fruits that look like cucumbers.

Undersized tomatoes are also great for growing in the garden, which are preferred by many experienced gardeners for their unpretentiousness and compact size. Among the many options presented are:

  • Iceberg - delicious tomatoes, covering bushes up to 50 cm tall, not requiring the formation of a stem and pinching;
  • Renet from the catalog of V. Popenko is a collection variety, which, with a height of only 40 cm, bears juicy fruits, weighing up to 100 g;
  • Cherry Fingers F1 - tomatoes especially for children: small size with a pleasant sweet taste;
  • Mongolian dwarf and Pink stella are squat tomatoes, often grown for pickling and harvesting for the winter, with small elongated fruits and dense skins;
  • Compliment is a variety that does not require a garter with direct sowing of seeds into the soil and very juicy sweet fruits, weighing about 120 g.

At good care Tall tomatoes also grow well in the open field, which often ripen later, but produce a crop throughout the season. Here you can consider both the species that have proven themselves over the years, and the novelties of 2020:

Regardless of the variety of tomatoes chosen, it is recommended to buy seeds only in trusted stores or from collectors. This will avoid unpleasant surprises and introduce interesting finds to breeders. The largest collection of seeds is presented by Valentina Redko from the Kurgas region and includes more than 1000 varieties. If you are interested in trying the seeds of rare or exotic tomatoes, then you should look into the catalog of Valery Popenko.

Video "What seeds to choose in 2020"

Informative video that will help with the choice of variety fruit plant for 2020.

In the middle of winter, gardeners and gardeners begin to purchase seeds for planting seedlings. Tomatoes, the best varieties and reviews of which we will consider today, are sold in huge quantities in stores. Almost every novice vegetable grower, choosing from an assortment, focuses on the external data of the variety, but not on recommendations for planting, and this is wrong. Which tomato seeds are best for open ground, and which ones are suitable for growing in greenhouses? That is what you need to pay attention to. As part of this review, we will try to help as much as possible with the choice of the most suitable variety.

How to choose the right tomato seeds: reviews of gardeners

Any gardener who has been working on his site for more than a year will say that the variety should be chosen as adapted as possible to the climate of the region and to the characteristics of the soil. For example, in the southern regions, tomatoes can grow both on high-quality black soil and on mixed soil. In varieties adapted to the south, the leaves will grow in such a way as to hide the fruits from the excessively scorching sun.

If you need to grow tomatoes in northern latitudes, then you need to choose those that are specially bred for the climate. It is cold-resistant, early maturing. Such varieties will be demanding on the composition of the soil, the leaves on them are rarer than those bred for the south. Sparsely growing foliage allows the fruits to receive the maximum amount of sunlight, heat and minerals.

Manufacturers of tomato seeds, according to gardeners, rarely indicate the regional destination on the packages, and you have to choose the most suitable one yourself, which is why we wrote this information.

It is also important to pay attention to the timing of maturation. Almost everything is suitable for the southern regions, because the harvest can be obtained from the latest varieties. For the northern and eastern regions of Russia, only early ripe ones are suitable, for middle lane- early and mid-season.

A good harvest cannot be obtained if you do not take care of the tomatoes, including tying the bushes consistently. If there is no time or desire for this, then it is better to choose an undersized variety. The bushes will be compact, do not take up much space and save time on tying.

Classification of tomatoes by type of growth

It is worth paying attention to when choosing this information in order to accurately obtain a crop. Varieties are classified as follows:

  1. Indeterminate - these are varieties where the central stem grows indefinitely. For the most part, they are suitable for growing in greenhouses, but they can bear fruit well in the southern latitudes in the open field.
  2. Determinant. If you are thinking about which tomato seeds are best for open ground, gardeners' reviews will be almost unanimous: these are the ones. The bushes are medium in size, bear fruit well without greenhouse shelter in any regions of Russia. Early ripe.
  3. Superdeterminant. Ultra-early varieties, undersized, adapted for regions with a capricious, cold climate.

Choice by purpose

An important factor in choosing tomato seeds is their purpose. That is, what they will be used for: in salting, for fresh salads, for juice or long-term fresh storage. You need to read the following information:

  • - These are large fruits with a thin skin and fragrant, fleshy pulp;
  • for canning - these are small and even small fruits, few seeds, tight pulp and dense skin;
  • universal - fruits are medium, tasty juicy pulp, tight skin, suitable for salads and juice making, as well as for canning;
  • for storage - only late-ripening varieties with good keeping quality, tight skin are selected, the fruits are small and dense.

The color, size, flavors and shape of tomatoes are not the main criteria, and their choice depends only on personal preferences.

Should I choose a pure variety or a hybrid?

Any novice vegetable grower asks this question. To decide which tomato seeds are better, you need to familiarize yourself with the advantages and disadvantages of hybrids and pure varieties.

Advantages of a pure variety: low cost of seeds, you can harvest seeds yourself in the future, stable characteristics.

Disadvantages of the variety: smaller yields compared to hybrid tomatoes, low resistance to various diseases.

Pluses of hybrids: high yields, stable fruiting, friendly ripening, resistant to diseases, excellent presentation.

Cons: seeds are more expensive than varietal seeds; it will not be possible to procure material for further planting on your own.

The best early varieties for open ground

Based on reviews, we have chosen seeds of early-ripening tomato varieties that are suitable for growing in open ground. These are determinant species, the maturation time of ultra-early ripening is from 75 to 90 days, early ripening - from 90 to 110 days.

  1. Beta is one of the most popular ultra-early varieties for outdoor cultivation. Fruits weighing about 60 grams, the height of the bush is half a meter, the yield is plentiful. The variety can be grown under any weather conditions, even with a consistently absent sun, tomatoes grow perfectly, only the taste becomes more sour. The purpose of the fruit is universal.
