How to lay laminate at an angle of 45. Laminate diagonally: a new way to emphasize the originality of the interior (27 photos)

Laying laminate diagonally not only diversifies the design of the room, but also visually expands the space. Such installation is a little more difficult to produce compared to a simple ordinary installation, but taking into account the recommendations of specialists, everything can be done with high quality and with your own hands. Some problems in work are compensated by the peculiar and attractive appearance of the flooring.

Styling features

Laminate flooring has gained wide popularity as a floor covering, which is facilitated by its many advantages. Almost all instructions for its installation are guided by standard installation, when the panels lie strictly parallel to the walls. This method is fully justified when the room has a strictly rectangular shape, and the walls converge clearly at a right angle.

What to do in the case when the shape is far from ideal, and the walls are not parallel, and even there are rounded corners and other atypical shapes? Standard, ordinary laying of laminate will only emphasize all the flaws, making them more noticeable. Diagonal laying of panels will help to solve the problem. With this system, the panels are laid at an angle of 30-45 degrees to the wall surface. The best option- 45 degrees, but depending on the curvature of the wall, the angle may vary within the specified limits.

What are the advantages of diagonal styling?

In addition to smoothing out construction defects, this arrangement of the laminate visually expands the space, and the effect is most pronounced in an uncluttered room. Designers successfully use this effect. In addition, the diagonal arrangement looks more original, and makes it possible to design the interior in an unusual style. At the same time, different colors of panels manifest themselves differently in visual perception.

 1. Before installation, it is necessary to ensure the adaptation of the laminate to the conditions of the room, for which it must stay in it for at least 2 days before starting work.
 2. It is desirable to carry out work at a temperature of 18-22 degrees and humidity in the room within 40-65 percent.
 3. The preparation of the floor surface is important. Irregularities should not exceed 2.5-3 mm per 1 m.
 4. Laying the laminate is done on the substrate.
 5. Material consumption at proper conduct diagonal laying slightly exceeds the material requirement for conventional installation. Cut off pieces can be used at the beginning or end of other rows. It is generally accepted that when forming diagonals, the planned flow should be increased by 7-9 percent. If a certain pattern is also laid out, then the consumption should be increased by 14-15%.
 6. The maximum size of the room where diagonal laying can be done is 7.5-8 m one way (width or length).
 7. It is not recommended to lay laminate on a floor with an electric heating system.

A compensation gap of at least 10 mm must be left around the entire perimeter of the room at the place where the laminate adheres to the wall, which is then closed with a plinth. This condition eliminates the effects of shrinkage and temperature changes.

Preparatory activities

The preparatory stage begins with cleaning the floor from debris and dust, as well as carefully leveling the surface. Roughness is checked using a long straight rail. If you apply it to the surface and lean towards the floor, then the irregularities will reveal gaps that can be measured with a ruler. When they exceed the allowable limits (3 mm), leveling is carried out with a cement mortar.

The next important preparatory step is the laying of the substrate. It is made of rolled or tiled material. The most commonly used options are polypropylene, cork, coniferous mats or sheets of extruded polystyrene. It should be noted that the use of a foam polymer underlay eliminates the need for thorough preparation of the floor surface, since able to smooth out the imperfections.

The next important preparatory step is the laying of the substrate.

To carry out work, prepare in advance essential tool- jigsaw, knife, scissors, mallet, hammer, tape measure, square, building level, brush for applying glue.

Wooden wedges will help ensure the same gap. In addition, you will need wooden block for tamping laminate tiles.

Technological features of laying

To ensure the correct diagonal laying of the laminate, the following rules must be observed:

 1. Based design solutions, the direction of laying the panels is selected. Their installation is recommended to start from the corner farthest from the door, on the left side.
 2. A laying angle of about 45 degrees is selected. If there are special room deviations from rectangular shape, then the angle can be reduced.
 3. Along the entire perimeter of the floor, along the walls, stakes are installed to form the same gap 1 cm wide.
 4. Using an electric jigsaw, the corner of the panel is joined so that its desired slope is formed after laying.
 5. .Neighboring rows of laminate are laid with a checkerboard pattern, i.e. the joint between the elements of one row should fall on the body of the adjacent element (at a distance of 1/3 of the panel length).
 6. Panels are fastened depending on the type of lock. The most common option is Click-lock. In this case, to connect the side edges to each other, the panel is raised at an angle of approximately 45 degrees, and a spike of the adjacent panel is inserted into the groove. The elements are lowered to the floor and then using wooden beam carefully knocked out with a mallet. The strips must be strictly parallel, and the gap should not exceed 1.5-2 mm.

When carrying out work, it is worth considering specific nuances. It is easier to ensure diagonal laying if the panels are at least 30 cm long. If there is a radiator in the room, then the row should be started under it, because the final lining under it is very inconvenient to do. If adhesive is used, it must be allowed to dry completely before checking the strength of the installation.

For ease of installation and constant control of the line, it is recommended to stretch beacon cords, which will be a visible guide to maintain the desired angle over the entire floor area.

Diagonal styling laminate is sometimes simply necessary in the presence of large defects in the construction of walls. It can be done in such a way that the coating not only hides errors, but also creates unusual interior. You can carry out the work with your own hands, and with their proper organization, it will be possible to avoid unnecessary waste of material.

Laminate flooring can be laid in two main ways: straight (along the wall) and diagonally. For narrow long rooms, straight laying is better, and if the length of the room differs slightly from the width, you can resort to diagonal laying. The process itself is quite laborious and requires more complex calculations.

The main disadvantage of diagonal laying is an increase in material consumption (waste is 10-15%, and when laying in a straight line - 5%). But this flooring option looks advantageous and allows you to create more exquisite design. Since the eye usually glides along the long joints of the panels, this good way draw attention to the piece of furniture located in the corner.

The simplest calculation for diagonal laying is to determine the area of the room and add 15%, and then divide the result by the area of one laminate panel. There is also a formula for a more accurate count.

Let the length and width of the room be X and Y, and the length and width of the laminate panel A and B. In addition to these values, we need a number equal to the square root of 2, which is approximately 1.42.

 1. The area of the room is determined as a standard, X * Y
 2. Stock area according to the formula Y * B * 1.42
 3. To get the total area of the products that will be needed for work, add up both results
 4. We divide the sum by the area of one laminate panel, we get the number of panels, round the result up

In general, the formula for determining the number of panels n looks like this:

Tip: for diagonal laying, it is better to purchase a laminate with shorter panel lengths.

Preparatory work

For sawing laminate, you need a tool with fine teeth, it is best to use a special machine or a jigsaw, you can also use circular saw. In extreme cases, a hand saw or a hacksaw will do, but for a large amount of work, a power tool is preferable. Cutting can be done as the laying is done, first having prepared panels for 2-3 rows. If a large number of panels are cut, they must be numbered so as not to get confused.

Important: the corners in rooms are often not perfectly straight, so you have to navigate directly on the spot to determine at what angle to cut the edges of the panels adjacent to the walls. Especially careful measurements are needed for the first 2-3 rows. If the panel is laid in a place where there is a ledge, a pipe comes out of the floor, curly cutouts are made according to a cardboard template.

Before starting installation, you must:

 • let the laminate rest indoors for at least a day
 • level, strengthen, clean the base
 • lay a substrate
 • prepare wedges for expansion gaps (you can use wooden bars, laminate trimmings, the optimal width is 1-1.5 cm)

Possible installation options

Laying laminate diagonally can be done in 3 ways:

 1. Laying starts from the corner, the first element has the shape of a right triangle
 2. The first fragment is placed at some distance from the corner and has the shape of a trapezoid
 3. Laying starts from the center of the room, from the line of its diagonal, the first row is prefabricated

As a rule, work is carried out from left to right, starting from the corner farthest from the doors. It is customary to lay the first row with a tongue (crest) away from you, with a groove towards you. Panels with a conventional lock (Lock) are located in the same plane and are knocked out with a light hammer through a wooden gasket for a tight connection. Since it is more convenient to drive a tenon into a groove, and not vice versa, it is better to start laying a laminate with such a lock from the corner and work in one direction. If a row consists of several panels, they can be attached to those already laid one by one or assembled in a row and connected to the previous one.

Clip-on (click) panels connect at an angle and snap into place, no padding required. The connection can be made on both sides, so this laminate can be laid from the center or set back from the corner.

corner stacking

On the reverse side of the laminate board, a right triangle is drawn with 45 ° corners (if the corner of the room is not perfectly straight, the necessary adjustments are made), with the hypotenuse towards the groove. This triangle fits into the corner of the room and wedged from the walls on both sides to form a gap. The unused part of the board will come in handy when laying in the second half of the room.

Then the whole panel is taken, a line is drawn from the edge of the side with the groove towards the side with the tongue at an angle of 45 °. From the received point on the side with the tongue, a segment is laid, equal to the length the base of the triangle. The second point is connected to the base, so that an angle of 45 ° is formed again, an isosceles trapezoid is cut out. The same principle is observed when cutting the following elements - the length of the smaller base of the next trapezoid should be equal to the length of the larger base of the previous one.

When the length of one panel is not enough to fill the distance from wall to wall, rows of several panels are assembled, first from 2, then from more. Corners are cut only at the outer panels in each row. The panels must be laid with an offset of half or a third of the length, so that the seams run apart. Each next stacked row is wedged.
After half the room is covered with laminate, the direction of cutting the corners is changed, now the larger base will be on the side of the tongue, and the smaller one on the side of the groove. At this stage, you can use fragments that were previously formed during cutting.

Stacking in two directions

Laying can start with a solid panel, it is cut at both ends at 45°, stacked with cuts parallel to adjacent walls, pushed into a corner as far as the walls allow, wedged. Next, several rows are assembled in the direction of expansion. The next row immediately after the solid panel can be made from two symmetrical fragments, and in the subsequent ones, the seams are shifted. When several rows are collected, you can fill the corner with smaller fragments. For ease of access, the assembled shield can be moved towards you, and when the corner is assembled, push it back, not forgetting the wedges.

If the laying starts from the center, it is necessary to connect the opposite corners of the room with a diagonal line, drawing it on the substrate.

Tip: it is difficult to draw a long line from corner to corner, it is better to pull the cord between nails or self-tapping screws hammered in the corners.

Then the angle between the drawn diagonal and the wall is measured and the first laminate panel is cut at the appropriate angle. It fits into a corner so that its wide base lies on the drawn line, and is separated from the wall with wedges. The required number of whole panels is connected to it at the ends, and the last one in the row is cut at the desired angle. Then the second row is assembled, which is a mirror image of the first, only the cutting must be carried out in such a way that the seams run apart. Further, laying is carried out on both sides of the center, suitable fragments are immediately used.

If the same flooring is laid in several rooms, and they are not separated by thresholds, the laminate is not cut along the line of the doorway, the following panels will be connected to the panels that extend beyond the room.

Outcome

The laminate, laid diagonally, looks quite impressive, so that the labor and material costs are justified. Laying laminate with a tongue-and-groove connection is best done in one direction and starting from the corner. For snap-on laminate, the laying direction does not play a fundamental role, so new rows can be connected to the base from both sides. When laying from the center, small fragments are mounted last, a more rational consumption of material is ensured.

Laminate has long established itself as a practical material. It is considered stylish and attractive. The specificity of this material allows you to lay it out with geometric patterns of various complexity, and the effect of such styling will be indescribable. For example, laying laminate diagonally is an option of unusual beauty that allows you to significantly transform the room.

Advantages of using diagonal styling:

 1. With this laying, the panels are located at an angle to the walls of the room, successfully hiding all the shortcomings. If the walls are not parallel, the usual arrangement of the panels will only emphasize this drawback, and the diagonal laying will hide it.
 2. Diagonal laying creates a unique visual effect of visual expansion of space. This will be especially true in small spaces.
 3. The main advantage is the beauty and sophistication of the finish.

Issue price

If you decide to use this installation option, then be prepared for the fact that the material, and, accordingly, the funds will have to be spent more. This is due to the fact that in the places where the ends of the laminate adjoin the walls, they will have to be cut at an angle in order to “fit” in place. From this it turns out that more material will go to waste than with the classic method of laying out panels.

Experienced laying masters manage with a 5% supply of material when laying, because they have developed a flair for the optimal location. For those who decide to do this for the first time, it is better to take 10-15% of the material in stock.

Note! It is better to take immediately purchase all the material that is required for installation. Because there is no guarantee that after some time you will find exactly the same color.

Required Tool

 • roulette,
 • jigsaw,
 • metal ruler,
 • a small piece of wood and a rubber mallet
 • pencil,
 • expansion wedges.

Laying laminate

The most common pattern for laying laminate diagonally is from the corner of the room. The work is carried out in stages.

 1. First, the surface is carefully prepared. If work is carried out on concrete floor then it should be smooth and dry. When laying on a wooden floor, it is also checked for reliability. align wooden surface maybe sheets of plywood.
 2. Then the substrate is laid on the surface. Joints must be sealed with adhesive tape.
 3. To control the accuracy of laying, you need to stretch the rope along the diagonal of the room.
 4. To select the required angle of inclination of the panel, you can first lay out several boards on the floor.
 5. After you collect several rows, they need to be fastened together. To do this, use a rubber mallet. Just do not overdo it when connecting, so as not to damage the lock connection.
 6. The gaps between the wall are fixed with wedges.
 7. If it is necessary to lay the board at the place where the pipes pass, holes are pre-cut in the panels, which can be filled with a sealant based on acrylic or silicone.
 8. In the final part of the work, the installation of skirting boards is carried out. For this, it is better to choose high-quality material with the possibility of pulling a cable inside it.

Trimming corners

Trimming is carried out at an angle of 45 °, for this a square is used or a template can be prepared in advance. The first rows are made from one panel. Each row is a trapezoid. The adjacent side should be equal in length to the outer part of the previous row.

 1. First, with the help of a square or template, the place of the cut is marked and the required angle is cut out with a jigsaw or other tool.
 2. When you reach the rows of several panels, you must first saw off the corner from the leftmost plank and connect them in one row. Such a connection will be temporary, so you should not be zealous in achieving density.
 3. Next, we measure the size of the residual piece (do not forget to take into account the thickness of the wedge that is inserted between the wall and the canvas), take the next panel and cut off the required angle according to the resulting size.
 4. The entire row is disengaged from the previous one, the resulting corner is inserted, and all connections are finally fastened.
 5. Thus, row by row, all corners are displayed. Having reached the edge of the room, you need to change the direction of the segment of the left corner. Further work is carried out in a similar order, only in the opposite direction.

Having done all the work correctly, you will get a smooth and beautiful coating.

 1. When choosing a material, you should not stop at cheap options. Due to poor quality, various defects may appear during operation.
 2. After acquiring a laminate, you need to let it "lie down" in the room where you decide to put it. This is necessary so that he gets used to the room temperature after storage.
 3. Laying work may only be carried out in dry rooms. Enhanced Level humidity can affect the quality of the material.
 4. During laying, it is necessary to leave "thermal seams" between the wall and the panels. They will provide additional protection from contraction or expansion. Gaps must be provided on all sides of the room. The gap is calculated as follows: for each meter of the width of the room, you need to leave 1.5 mm of gap around the perimeter.
 5. If there is heavy furniture in the room where the laminate is being laid, then the gap must be left within 10 mm from each wall of the room.

The photo shows examples of laying laminate diagonally, also, you can watch a video that describes the work process in more detail.

Laying laminate in itself is an extremely responsible matter, requiring careful preparation, accuracy, patience, and accurate calculation.

All this will be needed even more if it is decided to lay the laminated panels diagonally.

But the efforts spent will be rewarded a hundredfold - the coating laid in this way literally transforms any room.

Traditionally, laminate flooring is laid in such a way that the long seams between the panels are oriented parallel to the rays from the main source of daylight - windows.

And what opportunities does diagonal laying open up:

 • First of all, the window (one or more) may not be located quite standardly, with an offset to one or another corner. It may turn out that it is the diagonal laying that will fully comply with the principle of parallelism to the rays of light.
 • The panels, located at an angle to the walls of the room, are great at hiding its geometric flaws. So, if the walls are not parallel to one another, the traditional laying technique will only emphasize this defect, and the diagonal one will make it almost invisible.
 • The diagonal arrangement of laminated panels gives an interesting visual effect - a visual expansion of space, which is very important in cramped rooms of small apartments.
 • Such styling just looks very beautiful and gives the interior of the room a refined originality.

Is it true that more laminate is needed?

Yes, if you decide to resort to diagonal laying, the consumption will be higher, the laminate should be purchased with a certain margin. This is explained simply - in the areas where the ends of the panels adjoin the walls, they will have to be cut at a certain angle, “customized in place”. No matter how hard you try, "waste-free production" will not be achieved.

For experienced craftsmen, according to them, a 5% supply of laminate is enough - they have already developed a professional flair for the most optimal arrangement of panels.

For those who will carry out such styling for the first time, the reserve should be larger.

There are recommendations to purchase a stock of 15 or even 20%, which, probably, still exceeds the limits of reason.

Among finishers, it is customary to rely on a 7 percent reserve rate, but for a beginner, for a guarantee, you can take a margin of 0.1 of total area premises.

If this value is divided by the area of the panels that are in the same factory packaging, you can get the exact value of the packages needed to completely cover the room diagonally with laminate.

You should immediately purchase all the required quantity - there is no guarantee that the laminate of this batch will be in the store after some time.

And the panels of even the same model, but of a different batch, can differ markedly in color, which will be immediately noticeable on the floor.

Preparing for styling

In order for the laying of the laminate to be successful and the coating turned out to be of high quality, it is necessary to perform a number of preparatory measures.

Preparing the surface of the floor in the room

Laminate can be laid as on a concrete screed by conducting a complex necessary work for waterproofing and installation of a special substrate, and for the old floor covering - linoleum, boards, etc. The general requirement is that the floor must be perfectly flat and stable at any point.

If in some place there is subsidence, squeaks - an appropriate repair is required.

Linoleum should not have delaminations, bubbles, through abrasions, obvious signs of destruction concrete base under him.

 • If, then priming is necessarily carried out with deep penetration waterproofing compounds. In addition, the top floor is covered with plastic wrap. All work on this basis begins to be carried out only after the coating has completely solidified, in accordance with technological standards.
 • A substrate is laid under the laminate - polyurethane foam or natural cork. Its sheets are installed end-to-end and fastened with adhesive tape.
 • It is even better if it is possible to completely cover the room with OSB-plates - they will give and ideally flat surface, and additional noise and thermal insulation effect.

Preparation of material and tools, work planning

The purchased laminate, after its delivery to the place of work, must be unpacked and allowed to rest in this form for at least 2-3 days.

The panels adapt to the temperature and humidity of the room, in this way we exclude the possibility of their warping after installation.

IN without fail you need to draw a plan for the upcoming work, in compliance with the scale and taking into account the length and width of the acquired laminated panels. This drawing will give a visual representation of the laying sequence, help to avoid mistakes when cutting the material.

What is the preferred laying angle?

It is best, of course, to lean at 45 degrees - panel trims will be the most versatile, and the amount of waste will be significantly reduced.

An angle of 30 - 40 degrees is allowed, but if you make it less than 30, the coating will look ugly.

Preparing for work:

 • electric jigsaw or hacksaw with a small tooth;
 • hammer, preferably wooden or rubber;
 • curved mount for installation of finishing wall panels;
 • tape measure, square, ruler, pencil.

It is advisable to immediately make a proper supply of spacer wooden wedges 10 mm thick to ensure a compensation gap along the walls.

Before starting work, you should definitely enlist the help of a friend - with diagonal laying, it is especially necessary.

Diagonal Laminate Laying Process

Two schemes for laying the laminate diagonally are used - from one, the far corner of the room, or from the center, sequentially in one direction and the other.

From the corner

When laying from a corner, start with one solid panel, cut on both sides to the required angle.

It is she who will set the direction for the rest of the coating.

Do not forget that from the walls it must be wedged by 10 to compensate for the thermal expansion of the material.

If a heating pipe passes in the immediate vicinity of the corner of the room where work begins, it makes sense to start laying from here, immediately cutting a hole for it at the junction of two panels - this operation will be greatly simplified.

From the launch pad, which made up the first row, it is more expedient to go to the center of the room. The corner left uncovered can be laid later, using short pieces of material that will definitely appear in the course of work.

It is obvious that each subsequent row with such styling increases in length. Be sure to shift the transverse seams by ½ the length of the panel - it’s more beautiful, and the strength of the coating will be much higher.

The panels of each row must be fastened at the ends in advance, with the exception of segments adjacent to the walls.

 • The row is laid out in its place, but does not adhere rigidly in the lock to the previous one.
 • Then a measurement is made at two points, from both sides of the end of the last flat panel to the wall.
 • This distance, reduced by 10 mm, is transferred to the panel to be cut, a line is drawn and a cut is made along it with a jigsaw or hacksaw.
 • Do the same on the other side of the row.

Here is an important note to make:

If opposite walls are parallel, then the corner left after trimming should fit perfectly on the other side of the row. This must be taken into account in order to avoid wasting material - it is necessary to trim on one side to use them for the other.

And one more important remark - a fatal mistake of many novice repairmen is inattention to the location of the tongue and groove of the laminated board lock - after cutting, it often turns out that the corner is cut in the other direction.

The proverb about "measure seven times" is more relevant here than ever.

After all the details for the full row are ready, it is removed from the lock, assembled completely at the ends, and only then is it finally engaged with the locking part of the previous row.

It is here that the help of a friend will be invaluable - when the length of the row becomes significant, it is very difficult to cope with such a procedure on your own. After installing a solid strip, it is wedged from the wall with wedges.

Similarly, laying continues throughout the room. Exceptions may be the inner corners of the room - there you will have to take measurements at three points - along the edges of the board and at the very point of intersection of the walls.

In more detail and clearly the process of laying the laminate diagonally is shown in the video. Laying is done from the corner in a checkerboard pattern, it is described in detail how to start the corner and how to finish with the transition to another room.

From the center

Some masters prefer to carry out diagonal laying from the center of the room.

In this case, a long prefabricated row is laid first, which will set the general direction for all the rest.

Its installation is carried out in the same way as described above. After that, the installation of the coating takes place, first completely to one corner, then to the other.

This technique is especially relevant in cases where there are external corners in the room - for example, a large ledge, a column, or when the coating is inseparably transferred from one room to another.

In such a situation, it is advisable to lay the first row tangentially to the outer corner - this will significantly reduce worries with cutting. If this is not possible, you will have to take careful measurements at three or even more points.
When laying the adhesive laminate, then after the first three rows, it is necessary to pause for 3-4 hours so that the glue grabs well.

But using the "from the center" scheme when laying laminate with "Click" type locks may not be applicable.

This locking system involves inserting the tongue part into the groove at a certain angle and then snapping it into place, i.e. mounting must be carried out in only one general direction.

"Running" away from the center on some models of this type of laminate may simply be impossible. This must be taken into account when planning work.

At the end of the installation, it remains only to remove the spacer bars and fasten (to the wall, not to the floor!) Skirting boards.

In general, diagonal styling absolutely does not tolerate haste. Only careful measurements, attention and accuracy will result in a beautiful original coating.

And in order to minimize waste, it is advisable to constantly sort the remaining scraps during the laying process and use them as much as possible in the work.

Tastefully designed flooring significantly affects the overall picture of the interior. That is why the choice of such a coating should be taken very carefully so that the selected material not only looks beautiful, but also lasts a long time. Today, laminate flooring is rapidly replacing parquet, thanks to its practicality and ease of installation.

Before proceeding to installation work, be sure to familiarize yourself with a number of rules and recommendations that will help achieve the best result.

When should you not install laminate flooring?

There should not be any particular problems with laying laminate planks, but there are a number of factors under which the installation and selection of laminate should be done very carefully. These guidelines include the following:

Technology Choice

One of the important tasks in the installation of laminate flooring is the choice of laying technology. Among the most commonly used installation methods are the following:

 1. Glue method. Based on the name, this installation method consists in fastening the laminate elements together with the help of special adhesive mixtures applied to the end part of the boards. The main advantages of this method:
 • high reliability of the coating due to tight sealing of the joints, through which moisture does not enter the thickness of the floor sheet and does not deform it;
 • resistance to temperature extremes, since the locks of the boards are securely fixed with an adhesive composition;
 • ease of installation.

Important! The only significant drawback is that all parts are tightly glued and if something happens to one of the coating elements, then it will not be possible to replace it, but it will be necessary to carry out complete dismantling coatings.

 1. Castle Lock. This method is somewhat similar to the previous one, only the parts are fastened in a horizontal plane. Installation is carried out as follows:

Instrument preparation

To qualitatively perform the installation of a laminate coating, initially prepare a set of tools and materials. To make this work you will need:

 • jigsaw;
 • tape measure and ruler;
 • building pencil;
 • hammer;
 • square;
 • wooden bars for knocking boards;
 • expansion wedges for gaps;
 • special adhesive solution (depending on the choice of installation method);
 • laminate boards.

Important! Give preference quality materials from well-known manufacturers, so that in the near future you do not have to deal with the dismantling of freshly laid laminate.

Diagonal laminate calculation

Calculating the required amount of material for decorating the floor with such diagonal panels is quite simple: add another 15% to the number of meters of the total area of the room in which the laminate is supposed to be laid.

Important! If you are laying for the first time and do not have installation skills, then the material consumption will most likely be the footage + an additional 20%.

Room preparation

Every homeowner who has ever experienced a repair work(finishing walls, ceilings, facades) knows how important the preparation of the base is. Depending on the base material, the preparatory work will be carried out in different ways, so below we will consider two main types of surface.

Concrete floor

Concrete floors often dominate in multi-story residential buildings. As preparatory work in this case, fill with cement concrete screed. This method is the simplest without the involvement of builders and special equipment.

When performing a concrete screed, consider a few important points:

Wooden floor

The tree is much faster to deteriorate, even with the use of special impregnations. Therefore, when preparing a wooden base for a laminate, perform a number of activities:

 • rotten floor elements or those that are covered with mold and fungus must be replaced with new ones, microorganisms that have attacked areas of the wooden floor will not harm the substrate, but will adversely affect the laminate.
 • fasten loosened elements with self-tapping screws - this will prevent the appearance of unpleasant squeaks;
 • if significant deformations of the wooden floor are found, it would be advisable to completely replace it rather than perform restoration;
 • if there are irregularities in the floor, fix them with sheets of plywood or chipboard.

Important! This method quite economical and will help extend the life of a wooden floor by 15-20 years.

Substrate laying

After the base has been prepared, proceed with laying the underlay material, which performs a shock-absorbing function under significant loads on the coating, and also acts as a heater and sound insulator. To design the substrate, purchase one of the following materials:

Installation of the substrate is quite simple:

 1. Spread the material on the base joint to joint.
 2. Fasten the joints of the false sheets together with adhesive tape or masking adhesive tape.

Important! Lay the material, leaving an overlap on the walls of 50 mm, which, after laying, cut off with a knife.

How to lay laminate flooring diagonally?

Before proceeding with the installation, you need to deal with the question "how to lay the laminate diagonally?". In this case, you need to follow simple instructions and recommendations for laying, and then the result of your work will exceed expectations.

Installation technology rules:

 1. Choose the direction in which you will mount the boards. Often, laminate flooring begins to be laid from the far left corner.
 2. Choose the angle of the boards - the most acceptable is an angle of 30-45 °.
 3. Between the walls and the edges of the laminate parts, place ten-millimeter expansion wedges, which will prevent the panels from adhering tightly to the wall and create expansion joints.
 4. Lay the panels in a checkerboard pattern.
 5. Adjust the initial 2-3 rows according to the existing angle between the walls, since not in all rooms the walls are joined at an angle of 90.
 6. Be careful that the cut piece is the starting element of the next row.
 1. Cut panels as follows:
 • measure the distance from the edge of the penultimate part to the wall on one side of the plank, not forgetting the expansion joint;
 • write the data obtained with a pencil on a laminate board;
 • take distance measurements on the opposite side;
 • mark the second indicator with a pencil on the bar;
 • connect the two marks together;
 • cut the part along the marked line with a jigsaw.

Important! Laminate sawing is best done from the inside out so as not to damage the front surface.
