APP (recommended). FURNITURE, TABLES AND CHAIRS FOR EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS. FUNCTIONAL DIMENSIONS ISO 5970-79

0. Introduction

This International Standard has been developed in accordance with the principle that chairs and tables should be selected in such a way as to promote the correct position of the body when working at the table for those who use this furniture in educational institutions. All functional dimensions in the standard are based on results obtained with anthropometric research. Compliance with the requirements of this International Standard guarantees, with properly selected tables and chairs, a comfortable seating position and at the same time allows furniture makers and manufacturers to adapt to the technical conditions and the local economy in accordance with the requirements that put forward the training conditions in each individual country.

There are seven available sizes to suit virtually any height, but some adaptation is needed for those individuals whose physique differs significantly from the average. It is required to carefully study the national characteristics of the population in order to choose from the available seven standard sizes of furniture the most suitable for use in local schools.

The seven sizes of table and chair sets offered by this International Standard can meet the needs of any educational institution (except for special ones).

Medium-sized tables can also be used as working planes in cases where small students work standing up, higher tables are used for similar work of older students; the whole range of heights creates ample opportunities for the use of furniture designed in accordance with this international standard.

1. Object and scope

This International Standard specifies the functional basic dimensions for tables and chairs used in general education settings. It does not meet the particular requirements put forward by special educational institutions, or requirements for adjustable furniture. This International Standard is not concerned with materials, concepts, production and quality.

2. Dimensions

Chair dimensions are given in table 1 and table dimensions in table 2. Reference dimensions are indicated in figure 1 (side view) and figure 2 (top view)*.
__________________
* The tolerances indicated in table 1 and table 2 are not manufacturing tolerances, they only indicate possible intervals for functional dimensions.

The minimum width and minimum length of the table top given in Table 2 are selected according to the data for single or double tables in accordance with the specifics of their use.

The free area for the legs, determined by the dimensions, must be strictly observed in all tables intended for work activities in sitting position.

All drawers or compartments under the top of the table must be placed in such a way as to provide a free area for the legs equal to the minimum dimensions specified in the standard.

3. Relationship between chair and table

It is well known that students, being in a sitting position, can take a variety of postures. In order to decide the match between the chair and the table, it is necessary to choose a comfortable position and check the seven parameters in accordance with Figure 3. It shows the correct position of the student sitting at the table, which satisfies all the necessary parameters at the same time.

Method for assessing the correspondence between a chair and a table

Figure 3

A - the student's legs bent at the knees (in shoes) should lie quietly on a flat floor surface;

B - there must be sufficient space between the hips and the bottom of the table;

C - there should be no pressure on the front edge of the chair, between the seat surface and the thigh;

D - the height of the table should be chosen in such a way that the elbows of the seated person approach the same level with respect to the front edge of the table top as they are when the hands are lowered vertically down;

E - the back of the chair should firmly support the back of the person sitting in the lumbar region and the lower part of the shoulder blades;

F - there must be free space between the back of the legs and the front edge of the seat;

G - there must be free space between the support of the shoulder blades and the seat to ensure free movement on the chair.

Desk- an integral attribute, sometimes a student spends up to a third of the day at the table, doing homework.

If the table height is not chosen correctly, the student is likely to have a curvature of the spine, increased fatigue, and apathy. You can insure yourself against these troubles by competently approaching the choice of a desk, especially since there is a special GOST for these purposes.

The height of the desk for a student according to GOST

GOST 11015-71 regulates the height of tables for several groups of children, depending on their height:

For children with a height of 113-127cm, the height of the table top should be 52cm;

For children with a height of 128-142cm, the height of the table top should be 58cm;

For children with a height of 143-157cm, the height of the table top should be 64cm;

For children with a height of 158-172cm, the height of the table top should be 70cm;

For children over 173 cm tall, the height of the table top should be 76 cm.

If you strictly follow these figures, the student will receive the table that is most suitable for him in height, at which it will be convenient to work, and the posture will remain beautiful.

How to visually verify the correct choice? If the table surface is flush with solar plexus student, the table is chosen correctly!

Requirements for tables for a student

For learning to be as productive as possible, a student's desk must be at least 60 cm deep with a length of 1 meter or more. Optimal size the tabletop is 120*60cm.

When installing a laptop or computer on a table, you should consider in advance where they will be placed. The most successful is the option of special shelves slightly raised above the table surface. Thus, a place is allocated for the necessary gadget, and the useful area of \u200b\u200bthe table is saved as much as possible.

If you choose a chair and a table at the same time, it is easier to take into account all possible nuances, especially if a child is involved in the purchase. Correct fit lies in the fact that the feet of the student sitting at the desk are on the floor.

We must not forget about the need for free legroom under the table: it minimum size 45*50 cm.

Most parents are interested in the question right choice desk for a child who has just started school. And this is quite understandable. After all, every adult knows firsthand how important this is. Poorly selected desk height can adversely affect health. Vision problems, poor posture and additional stress on the internal organs of a still fragile body are among the consequences of a poor choice of furniture for study. In addition, an uncomfortable place can lead to inattention and poor academic performance of the child.

Table height standards for a child

It is important to know that any table for classes will not work. It is necessary to choose one, sitting behind which the child will maintain the correct posture. To help parents cope with this task, there is a set of rules. They will help determine the size of furniture for study. Basic standards in the preparation of the workplace:

  1. The proportions of the height of the chair and the table should be within 2 to 3. That is, with a chair of 50 cm, the table should be 75 cm high. Deviations from this norm should be minimal.
  2. With a height of 100–115 centimeters, the height of the chair should be in the range of 32–35 cm. The height of the table in this case is 50–53 centimeters.
  3. At correct selection a chair, the student's feet should reach the floor. The knees are bent at a right angle.
  4. The elbows of the child are located exactly on the surface of the table, the tabletop itself is located flush with the diaphragm.
  5. The distance from the knees to the countertop is 10-15 centimeters.

Important indicators are also the depth of the chair and table. The seat should not be too long. When the student pushes against the back, make sure it does not press against the hamstrings. The countertop, on the contrary, should not be short. All school supplies should fit on it without problems.

How to choose the height of the table for a child by height: table

Avoiding problems with the health of the child in the future is a task of paramount importance. To do this, you need to choose the right furniture for him. To make it easier for parents to decide, there is a special table that shows the required dimensions of furniture, depending on height.

The information given in this table will help new parents make their choice. But don't rely on it alone. It's a good idea when shopping for study furniture to take your child to the store, seat them at a table, and make sure they're comfortable enough.

What other parameters need to be taken into account

In order to make the study as comfortable as possible, you need to pay attention to other parameters. Not only the height of the furniture determines the quality of work behind it. It is also important not to ignore the following:

  1. Incline. The tabletop located at a slight angle will reduce eye strain. Writing in this case will also be a little more convenient - the tension of the hands will decrease.
  2. Safety. Attention should be paid to the presence of sharp corners in order to exclude the possibility of impacts.
  3. Color and design. Do not buy a table of too bright colors or an unusual shape. This will distract the student from class.
  4. Material. It is better not to buy furniture made of expensive materials for classes. Children will quickly stain it with ink and paints. Look out for plastic products. Some types of this material are toxic and emit an unpleasant odor.

Also, when buying, pay attention to the presence of various drawers and shelves. Space for books, notebooks and other study supplies will never be superfluous.

How to change the height of the desk

If it so happened that the furniture for study turned out to be too low or high, for example, they made a mistake when buying, or the child just grew up, you need to fix it.

IMPORTANT! Don't risk your child's posture. After all, the developed scoliosis is not only an unattractive appearance, it is also pressure on the internal organs, the deterioration of their work.

If the furniture turned out to be too high, there are two ways to solve this problem:

  1. Cut off the legs. Not the most elegant way. Later, when the baby grows up, you will have to think about how to attach them back.
  2. Build a chair stand. It can be knocked down from boards and sheathed with cloth. This solution will be a wonderful addition to the interior of the children's room.

If it turned out to be too low, the same stand will help, only this time you will need more - for the table itself. Another solution is to replace the legs, if the model allows it.

When buying furniture for study, best solution will look at models with the ability to adjust the height. This will save you the trouble and need to replace the table and chair in the future.

The state has developed rules and regulations for kindergartens and schools, which are recorded in the document: “Requirements for the conditions and organization of education in educational institutions” (SanPin 2.4.2.2821-10).

Clause 5 says the following:

Student furniture should be made of materials that are harmless to children's health, and meet the growth and age characteristics of children and ergonomic requirements.

and here is the table:

Desk and chair height according to GOST 11015-93 and 11016-93

Smart solution: height-adjustable desk

Children grow up too fast. And so that parents do not have to change furniture every year, manufacturers produce so-called “growing desks” with height adjustment. This is very convenient and allows parents to save money. As the child grows, the tabletop simply rises desired level special mechanisms, which allows you to use the product during the entire period of study: from the first grade to graduation.

In our assortment there are transforming desks with various mechanisms for lifting the tabletop: from simple to super-reliable German gas lifts. detailed information for each item is placed in the product description. Some models have an overview video where you can see the use in action and choose the best option for your child.

Hi all! An incorrectly selected table height can negatively affect your comfort, spine, child's posture and the duration of the tasks that will be carried out at the table. It is especially important for parents to competently approach the choice of a table for a first grader, a student's writing and working table for a preschooler.

Tables differ in purpose and height. It is the height of the table that often plays a key role in the choice. There are models for which they sit on chairs, on the floor, and even for standing work. Constructions are considered separately. massage table, cafe tables, billiard tables and even table tennis.

As for self-manufacturing or choice for the home, then here we are most often talking about the optimal height for a dining kitchen table, office, magazine or written for a schoolchild and student.

I propose to talk about the nuances of choice, discuss the standards and rules for selecting a table and chair, depending on the height, accepted standards according to GOST, SanPin, etc.

We have already discussed a number of topics related to tables. Relatively recently, they talked about , and a homemade bar stool, it was also about and designs for .

In all these cases, it was necessary to determine the height, take into account not only common standard, but also individual needs, their height and other parameters. There are no universal tips and sizes for all occasions. Here it is necessary to build on the purpose of the table. It also never hurts to consult with experts to clarify some details. A height-adjustable table is supposed to be the solution to the problem. But not all tables are adjustable.

Most often, adjustable designs are designed for children. These are school tables and desks designed for long-term operation without the need to change furniture every 2-3 years.

But for adults, the correct height plays no less a role. It affects not only the comfort of working at the table, but also on well-being and health.

An incorrectly chosen height turns into the following possible consequences:

  • visual impairment;
  • backache;
  • muscle discomfort;
  • disorders in the work of the joints;
  • rachiocampsis;
  • incorrectly formed posture;
  • gait disturbance;
  • headache;
  • pinching of the vertebrae;
  • vertebral hernia, etc.

Don't joke about health. It is better to initially competently approach the issue of buying or making furniture with your own hands. Based on the standard, always make allowance for your height, the purpose of the table and personal feelings when sitting on chairs or in a chair.

Destination Height

The table can be a coffee, massage, children's and adult written, dining, working kitchen, computer for a gamer or purely for working on a PC. One design is designed for a sitting position, others for a standing position.

Dining tables are usually selected based on the height of the person himself, as well as the height of the chairs used. The minimum and maximum recommended height for a working kitchen table is between 87 and 97 cm. This is the distance from the floor to the countertop. Each user decides for himself what should be optimal height. The specified parameters will be relevant and most convenient for people with a height of 155 to 200 cm. For the widest audience, a table about 85 cm high is best suited. But 90 cm will seem too high for people of average height and below average.

Coffee tables are taken on the basis that they are a few centimeters higher than an armchair or sofa. Written designs are usually slanted. They are ideal for school children.

Now let's briefly go through the main types of tables and their height. You can take this into account when you do or just buy ready-made new furniture.

Kitchen tables

In choosing the height for the desktop kitchen table, the height of the user plays a key role. If a person is short, up to 150 cm, the design should have a height of 75 to 80 cm. With a height of 150-160 cm, 80-85 cm should be taken. The average height of a person is 160-180 cm. It is on him that the bulk of manufacturers are oriented. Therefore, in most cases kitchen tables have parameters 85-92 cm.

The height range from 180 to 195 cm provides for a furniture height of 95-100 cm. If the height is over 195 cm, the furniture should be taken to order.

Before buying a desktop, be sure to check its parameters and compare it with your height. Visual assessment may be erroneous.

dining tables

Such tables are usually located in the kitchen, in the living room and on the terrace. For them, the height is selected more easily, since users will be in a sitting position. It is important that the knees are comfortably located, and it is possible to stretch the legs at least a little.

Experts note that a convenient height for such cases is from 70 to 75 cm. The width is chosen individually. it optimal parameters for people of average height. But there is also a formula that is quite simple to use, which allows you to calculate the required characteristics of a furniture structure. To do this, take your height, multiply by standard height, that is, 75, divide it by the height that furniture manufacturers rely on. If you are, say, 170 cm tall, it turns out that the table should be taken with a height of 77.3 cm. Round it down and you're done.

Do not worry that children at such a table will be uncomfortable. They are small but will grow up soon. And relying on them when it comes to planting the whole family is wrong.

Solving the problem of planting children is extremely simple. To do this, buy appropriate chairs or stands for regular seats.

Desks

Here, the optimal parameters for adults and for children are separately distinguished.

When choosing an adult desk, you need to take into account the height and features of the physique. For children, it is optimal to take adjustable capitals. When choosing a design for a child according to height, a table of parameters will greatly help you simplify the solution of the problem.

I will single out several parameters, the norms of which were developed back in the 20th century. Specialists focused on preserving the human spine:

  • for people with a height of 175 to 183 cm, furniture is needed with a height of 70-80 cm;
  • height 190-200 cm requires a desk 850-900 mm;
  • at 150-160 cm, structures up to 600 mm high are chosen.

If you wish, you can calculate everything yourself and understand which furniture is right for your situation. Despite the standards, everything is quite individual.
