Features of laying a teak floor in the bathroom

Bathroom design does not recognize trifles. The selection of finishing materials should be treated with utmost attention. Moreover, not only the presentable appearance of the premises depends on this, but also the frequency of repairs, which, as you know, require a serious investment of time, effort and finances. This is especially true for flooring. Until recently, there was practically no alternative to traditional ceramic tiles. However, teak flooring in the bathroom is now in vogue, a beautiful and very durable coating.

Teak, a deciduous tree from the Lamiaceae family, belongs to the wood of valuable species. Its natural range is in Indonesia, Myanmar, India, Malaysia and Laos. The special texture of the material and beautiful color, and most importantly, high strength and weather resistance, make it indispensable in the production of garden furniture, ship decks and, of course, flooring.

The teak floor is not only very beautiful, but also extremely strong and durable.

Teak is fairly easy to work with. Wood contains natural oils with a special composition, which make it particularly resistant to adverse effects even without additional treatment. The most durable and durable material is considered to be obtained from old teak trees, while the wood from the plantation is less hard. Teak is absolutely not subject to rotting, moisture, insect damage and has a unique resistance to any mechanical damage. These properties make the flooring very durable.

Another interesting feature of teak flooring is the change in color during use. It is most pronounced when exposed to direct sunlight. Initially, the wood plays with the most beautiful golden yellow-brown hues, then brightens and gradually acquires grayish tones. If the owner does not like the new color of his floor, he can carry out a light sanding, removing the brightened layer of material, and re-treat the coating with oils. However, connoisseurs of antiquity, on the contrary, try to acquire artificially aged teak, which is distinguished by its noble bluish hues.

The appearance of the material is beyond praise. The effective noble covering differs in unusual accurately expressed texture. After installation, the surface is treated with special oils. This makes it velvety and non-slip, which is especially true for bathrooms. Teak creates a very pleasant microclimate in the room. Boards accumulate, and if necessary, effectively give off heat, thereby maintaining the most comfortable temperature in the room. The coating is environmentally friendly, hygienic and easy to clean.

The surface of teak boards is treated with special oils, which give the coating a noble sheen and velvety.

The nuances of installing teak flooring

A quality teak floor can only be laid using a special multi-stage technology. The first step is preparing the foundation. It must be carefully leveled, all defects repaired, if necessary, you will have to fill in the screed. The dried base is thoroughly cleaned of dust, the horizontal surface is checked and covered with a primer. The operation is necessary to improve the adhesion of the base and the waterproofing layer, which must be applied to it without fail.

Coating materials, which are particularly easy to apply, are most often chosen as a waterproof coating. The joints of the floor and walls before the start of insulation work are pasted over with a special waterproof tape. A waterproofing composition, resembling sour cream in consistency, is applied to the base with a roller or brush. Usually 2-3 layers are applied, each of them must dry well before the next is applied. When processing with a moisture-proof composition, you must follow all the requirements of the instructions, this is the only way to achieve a good result.

Black deck sealant, which fills the gaps of teak boards, is considered the "calling card" of an elite coating.

Next, the teak board is laid. This is a particularly important undertaking, since a compensation gap must necessarily remain between the plates. It will allow the material to move freely with the inevitable changes in temperature and humidity in the room. Slots are carefully sealed with a special elastic sealant. This is a special compound that expands and contracts with the wood, preventing cracks from forming in the coating. Regardless of the color of the wood, it can only be black, which gives a special charm to the finished coating.

At the final stage, the board is sanded and covered with special oil. Only after all these works have been completed, the teak floor in the bathroom is ready for use. Such coverage is not cheap. The high cost consists of the price of the board, which is high in itself, the payment for the pre-treatment of the coating, the services of professionals laying the floor, the price of glue, primer, sealant and consumables. However, the original appearance, unique performance properties and durability of the coating will eventually pay off even such seemingly serious amounts.

Luxurious teak floor in the bathroom: a dream come true

Laying a teak floor is a very responsible process. The exclusion of any technological operation, an installation error or an arbitrary replacement of the material can lead to unpredictable consequences. Therefore, self-laying teak is not recommended. Even the experience of construction activities does not guarantee the absence of shortcomings and installation errors, which will have to be paid for with considerable sums, given the cost of this coverage. It is best to entrust the work with teak to specialists who will delight you with an impeccably laid high-quality coating.
